Good graphics card for Vista PC?

Good morning everyone,

I was not sure where to ask so I thought I should post here in my favorite forum. I have just built a new desktop PC with the following configuration:

Mobo: Gigabyte 78LMT-S2
CPU: AMD Fx-4300 3.8GHz
RAM: 4GB DDR3 800MHz
HDD: Seagate ST3320820AS
Video: On board ATI Radeon HD 3000 (AMD 760G chipset)

The PC is okay for everyday use but I want to improve the graphics. More specifically, I would like to have HDMI (The Mobo has only a VGA port) and be able to play games like StarCraft or Crysis 2. On the other hand, I cannot afford buying the most expensive graphics card out there.

So, what graphics card do you suggest I should buy that fits my hardware configuration and requirements?

Thank you in advance,

You said you wanted HDMI. Does your monitor have a HDMI connector?

How much are you willing to pay for a new card?

One very important consideration is your power supply. How powerful is it?

When Crysis came out it required was was at that time a very high end graphics card. When dealing with very resource intensive games you don't want to cheapen out or you will end up with poor performance or have to play the game at a lower frame rate. The same is true of your PSU. If you upgrade your graphics card more than likely you will have to upgrade your PSU so factor that in to your budget. Unfortunately you may not want to pay for the most powerful but games such as Crysis require the most powerful.

Yes, my monitor has HDMI and my PSU is brand new and very powerful. I know nothing about the cards of the ATI Radeon family and I am looking for suggestion. I can afford paying up to $120.

Recommending a specific card is a can of worms. If we recommend a card, you buy it and then aren't happy, you'll be plenty mad at us. I'll stick my neck out and say take a look at the EVGA gtx 750. It is available in your price range and not only supports HDMI but, also, Displayport 1.2. You should compare it's specs to those required by the game you want to play.

You need to check your power supply. Most cards that will do what you want need 400+ W psu.

For information, the GTX 750 requires a minimum 300 W PSU.

GTX 750Ti is a little more exensive but gives you a little more performance...if you have a brand new CHINESE PSU... first change it with a serious brand new PSU (must be a 500+W PSU)...then purchase GPU...

Otherwise you will cook your PSU and HW components.

:D
