Connection issue after network connection

I've been having this issue ever since I bought my new tablet pc. I am connected wirelessly to a network here at work. I've never had an issue with any other computer before until this one. I'm using a Vista 64 ultimate and this is my issue.

I connect to the wireless network... I can browse the internet just fine.

I have a shortcut on my desktop \\192.168.1.200\location

Once I click on that it ask me for my user id and password so I enter and I then get to the network folder.

After a few seconds it says Not Responding and I can no longer connect to the network or the internet although I can ping all internet addresses just fine.

Disconnecting from the wireless and reconneting does not work... Disabling and reenabling doesn't work either. I have to shut down the pc and restart for it to come back up.

Any suggestions??? Please?

Thanks,

Shawn

How long have you had this machine, if it hasn't worked as it should since new I'd take it back for a replacement or repair.
Have you tried to make a new shortcut, maybe the one you have is corrupted somehow.
Those are my thoughts with regards the problem ;)

I've only had this machine for a couple weeks and it's been an issue from the beginning. I bought three of them for my work place along with two different laptops that only come with vista 32 home addition. All three of the tablet pc's like mine have the same issue with the network while the other two work just fine with it.

I looked up the wireless router we were using on a vista64 compatibility site and it was on the list as not needing any new downloads and that it already is compatible.

I also learned that when I'd lose connection via wireless that if I hardwired myself to the network I'd have internet again and the network connection to my server (\\192.168.1.200\location) worked great also. After disconnecting from the hardwire the wifi would work again as well until I tried connecting to the server via the \\192.168.1.200\location. Then the forementioned problem starts over... but it's only after I get the Not Repsonding message when trying to connect to the server.

Frustrating to say the least! Any other thoughts?

I'm afraid I don't know much about networking or laptops but another thought is maybe the wireless card inside is bad and needs replacement, which should be done under warranty.

See what the experts say when they see your post ;)

I have a similar issue and it has to be something with Vista. I bought my daughter an HP laptop with Vista on it for college. Whenever she comes home on the weekend and is using her laptop, my wireless router just seems to quit working. I have to unplug both the router and the cable modem and then plug them back in to get it working again. But there's no telling how long it will last.

When my daughter goes back to college and her laptop is no longer around, I have no problems at all. I have not found an answer yet as to why this is. I may just buy a new router and try that.

Thanks
