DHCP Client Service Won't Start - Error 1068

Starting yesterday I haven't been able to connect to my network via Ethernet.

I'm using the onboard network adapter from my ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe mobo and Vista Ultimate 64 Bit. Under device manager my network adapter is NVIDIA nforce 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet. That's a generic name, I checked my mobo specs and it's specifically a NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI MCP. I have the latest driver which is 67.8.9.0. My
router is a Linksys WRT54GSv4.

I want to use a dynamic address, I have a static IP set up on my wireless and that's working fine right now. But I can't connect using either of my Ethernet ports. I've switched ports on my router, but my 360 connects no problem so I don't think it's the router.

Under network connections my Local Area Connection is stuck on "Identifying..." If I double click it and click details I have no default gateway. Belarc Advisor tells me DHCP Server: none responded.

I've been researching the problem as much as I can. So my DHCP Client Service Won't Start, I get Error 1068 Which is the dependency services or group failed to start. The dependencies I have for the DHCP Client Service are

Ancillary Function Driver for Winsock
NetIO Legacy TDI Support Driver > TCP/IP Protocal Driver
Network Store Interface Service> NSI proxy service

Under services I can see that Network Store Interface Service is running. I ftyped net start AFD on cmd I was told that the service is already running. So that leaves TCP/IP, but I am able to ping 127.0.01 so I don't know what the problem could be here.

Hi,

1. Type netsh winsock reset catalog in elevated command prompt and press enter.
2. Once the command finished her work restart your system and try to start the service

Let me know the result :)

That service might be deleted in your computer. Try a system restore before the point when the problem started. That will restore the service

Well my DHCP service won't start, but as I'm trying to start all the services these won't start as well:

DNS Client
IP Helper
DHCP Service

All with error 1068 Dependency service failed to start. So it must be something with my TCP/IP Protocol Driver since all three share the dependency service of NetIO Legacy TDI Support Driver > TCP/IP Driver and it is the only dependency of DNS Client.

"Windows could not start the DHCP Client service on Local Computer.
Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start."

So it isn't stuck on starting, it just won't start, immediately after attempting to start the service i get that message.

I have tried that, "elevated" just meaning as in right clocking cmd.exe and running as administrator, then yes.

open regedit.exe,

navigate to hklm\system\currentcontrolset\services\dhcp in the right pane click on depend on service. What is the values,

if u have nsi, afd, tdx. Then delete the line of tdx and give ok.

Try to start the dhcp server :)

before u do backup your registry

I did have NSI, TDX, AFD like you said. I deleted TDX and then went to my DHCP service. TCP/IP Driver wasn't a dependency service anymore, but DHCP still won't start.

edit:

I had to restart, after a restart DHCP will start, but DNS Client and IP Helper still won't start.

So I have internet, but I can't transfer files to my 360 anymore. Internet access isn't my problem since I have wireless that has worked fine this entire time. I think my TCP/IP driver is broke since the other two services won't start and now, only with it removed from the dependency services would DHCP start.

Type ncpa.cpl in run and hit enter.

Double click on the working adapter, in the window click on properties

in the propery box remove the check mark of services except i highlighted. What i mean is remove the check mark of virtual machine and ipv6 in my case

restart your system and try to start the services

No luck, neither of the two processes (DNS Client or IP Helper) would start, DHCP will only start as long as the tdx entry is removed from the dependency list.

That is what I did, I thought you were saying leave the highlighted ones checked.

Flavius, I followed the steps, and I still can't start the services.

As of now I can start my DHCP service and get internet over my wired connection by removing TDX (the tcp/ip driver) from the dependency services list for DHCP. DNS Client and IP Helper will still not start, which have tdx as a dependency service. Which makes me think there is a problem with the TCP/IP driver, but I've used the command to reset them to default and it still doesn't work.

The services won't start in safe mode, I can try the system restore undo, but wouldn't that only be helpful if a system restore was what caused the issue?
