Limited or no connectivity revisited

I know there are several threads like this on the vista forums, but the postmaster recommended a new thread so i am kindly obliging.

I have the same ****ty problem many before me have had. One peeerty day I turned on my Vista comp, and all of a sudden my wireless connection had stopped working. Limited or no connectivity was the message I got.
So I fired up my notebook, running with XP - same thing. Limited or no connectivity. Only when I did diagnose problem on my XP it did precisely that. and the problem was gone.

My Vista was helpless.

Unfortunately I tried using one of the solutions I found online, i.e. Windows Vista cannot obtain an IP address from certain routers or from certain non-Microsoft DHCP servers

...and it did not work. Here is my ipconfig - maybe somebody can help me.

may just be a bad dns entry. can you go start>search>cmd> type ipconfig /flushdns, enter, then ipconfig /renew, enter

Re-run the ipconfig /all and look for your IP number. what is it?

The first "request requires elevation" can be resolved I believe by typing "cmd" in the search bar at the bottom of the search bar and when the result pops up above right click it and select "run as administrator". This is know as an "elavated command prompt".

OK, so I ran it as administrator.

dnsflush = succesfully flushed the DNS resolver cache.

ipconfig/renew = An error occurred while renewing (same as above...). DHCP thing.

I also did what kavita suggested, restarted comp, and nothing.

Any ideas?

Oh, the ipconfig/all is the same as before.

Clean reinstall. The Windows Socket layer(Winsock) has gone bad.

Let me get this straight, you are proposing I reinstall Vista to get rid of this problem? That seems rather desperate, ay?

I don't know anything about this stuff, but could you at least explain why such a drastic move is the only solution?

has the dhcp problem been addressed or resolvec?

what is the DHCP problem? I have only surmised that DHCP may be an issue. That's what the renew command, and the response it gets (see above, copied in full), would suggest.

As for resolutions, that's what I am here for... :)

In one of your earlier posts you mentioned something abt dhcp. dhcp is provided by your usp and with out it you cant visit web sites. I was just checking to see.

I just logged on and wanted to see what your status is

What my status is?

Sorry, I'm afraid I don't follow your questions. In the above posts I implemented all the proposed solutions I received from users on this forum. And nothing has changed. Is that what you mean by status?

I don't really know what more I can tell you. All the command results are posted in the first post. Nothing has changed since then, despite my implementation of this forum's suggestions.
