Specified Device Does not Exist

My husband's laptop will not connect to any wi fi - anything I try to do from opening Communicaiton Manager to checking network status, to trying to restore gives me the error that states ""The specefied service does not exist as an installed service. I am a novice with these things and have had nothing but frustration with this all day. Can anyone give me any suggestions - remember I am not a computer tech - just a wife trying to help her hubby (who is more of a novice than me)
