Hi: I have an extenal WD passport drive. I cannot download files larger than 4GB because it is based on FAT32. What is the down side of changing it to NTFS? Thanks.

Hi, flyingfox100, and welcome to the forums.
Honestly, not a lot - files on NTFS systems are more secure, but a small system performance (and I mean *extremely* small) hit is that it writes extra information about the file for security purposes when it writes the file. The Last accessed time can be a small PITA on external drives because files that get 'touched' a lot will constantly be getting updated. Finally, If you take the drive to a machine running an older version of Windows (think 9x) then you may not be able to read the drive.

And I would like to add that I always reformat externals to NTFS. Even flash drives. They just work better.
