7zip & media player classic problems

hello!

I just upgraded to Vista x64.
I downloaded 7zip for Vista 64 and media player classic (32bit).
File associations won't work on both of them.
Example: I select that I want 7zip to open RAR, ZIP, ISO and others, but nothing. nothing gets accepted.
Same thing with media player classic (I want it for MPEG, H264 and basically all video files) , but still nothing.
file associations won't work.

any ideas?

Try right clicking on the rar and zip etc and open with and browse to the 7-zip program folder and select 7zFM and make sure to check always use this program and do the same for window media player classic too.

well, that's the crude way, but thanks...It'll work, but...the problem still remains. There's obviously something wrong with Vista x64 and those programs.

edit: after working a bit with this problem, I came up with the solution. I did "open with..." with some of the files (mpeg, avi, rar and zip) and "forced" Vista to open it with 7zip and Media Player Classic. Then I tried to do to association again from within the programs and now it works.

You need to right-click the 7-zip/MPC shortcut and run it with Administrator rights to make the file associations stick.
