CD Burner Problem

Hi,
I am using an audio editor called WaveLab Essential 6. When I create a CD Montage of songs and try to WRITE to CD, it opens up the WRITE CD dialogue box and shows my device as Optiarc DVD/RW AD-7580A. Everything seems fine until I choose to WRITE. At that point, it shows that the CD creation progress is 100% and says that the CD was created successfully. The elapsed time shows 5 seconds and Saved Data shows 52.12 MB (5'9'' of audio). The real problem here is that the CD is still blank and nothing was recorded on it. Can anyone recommend a solution to get this CD Burner to actually write? It works fine in Media Player.

I am using Windows Vista, Intel Pentium Dual Core, 3 Gigs, the CD drive is listed above.

Here are some ideas off of their Knowledge-Base: CD/DVD writer issues :: Knowledge Base :: Steinberg Media Technologies GmbH

Also, you might try searching for a firmware update to your burner.

If nothing else works, can you use WaveLab to write to an ISO file, and then burn the ISO with some other software (such as ImgBurn or CDBurnerXP) ??

And, not that I'm trying to cop-out of helping you, but you could probably contact Steinberg directly. It's their software - they should know lots more about making it work than a forum troll like me. ;)

Thanks.
Actually, I have been dealing with Steinberg, both tech support and forum experts. Unfortunately, everyone is pointing to an ASPI driver install which I have done but the problem still persists. It's just interesting that it indicates that the CD was burned when in fact it is not.

Yeah, that really does seem like a glitch in their software.

Most burner softwares have at least two modes of talking to the burner (NT / direct, and ASPI). If ASPI is not working, have you tried using "direct" access?

I'm afraid I've never even heard of this software - so I can only give generic tips that I've picked up over time.

Here's a link describing ASPI vs SPTI (which is commonly called NT-mode or "direct"): All about ASPI and SPTI - Hydrogenaudio Forums

I can't remember the last time I saw a burner app that ONLY supported ASPI. Somewhere in WaveLab, you should be able to tell it to use a different mode of talking to your burner. It may refer to this as the "interface" or "access mode/method" or similar.

These days, ASPI is antiquidated. It's outdated and unnecessary, and in the past several years I've only heard it being recommended as a last-resort.

Google cache link of the article. Should be good for a while.

If you want to check and see if SPTI/ NT-mode / direct-mode is working, just find a free burner app and see if it works.

I'd recommend ImgBurn. It's free. It's small. It's an excellent burner app.

If ImgBurn works flawlessly in SPTI mode and/or ASPI mode, then you can tell that to the folks that make WaveLab. If they can't fix it, hopefully you can negotiate a refund.
