DEP error "itunes has stopped working"

This is no fun. DEP "must be turned on for itunes to run" so it cannot be turned off (not an option). I have uninstalled and reinstalled at least 4 times, itunes and quicktime. I am almost ready to reinstall the O/S. Wish I could downgrade to XP, no problems on my XP machine. I saw a previous post but never saw the resolve to the problem. Any definite answer will be greatly appreciated!

Sorry to report that I did turn off Windows Defender and the computer would not allow me to turn off DEP for itunes. Itunes still not working.
