I am a total newbie and confused

I have a laptop (Core2Duo T7500, 3 MB RAM 250 GB Hard Drive) running Vista Home Premium. I purchased a Pinnacle PCTV HD Pro Stick (800e). I tried to run the software it came with but it would not install. I am able to run it on Windows Media Center and, I guess, that is ok since I read bad things about the Pinnacle software. It is running fine when I connect an antenna to it, but I dont have great reception - I realize that is the antenna / placement but that is not my concern now. My current frustration is I am unable to connect to my cable and see any channels. Can someone please tell me how to do this? I want to be able to record a football game next week.

Thanks in advance.

To be able to wattch and record cable TV you require a cable TV card. I do not know of any card that will fit into a laptop. Sorry this info will not help you with your dilemma...

BTW seen any UFO's lately?

FWIW - we have three tv's NOT using a cable box and one that is. Does it matter if you use the signal before or after the cable box? I could do it either way if it matters.

I also have a desktop PC I could re-purpose. If I did so, what type card would work for it?

You can use it before the box.
You will need a Cable PCI card such as:~

Why would he want a satellite card if he has cable?

Now i have a new question. Is there a way to have it setup so it knows my cable area and my OTA information so all I need to do is change the connection from cable to antenna or is new setup gonna be required whenever I want to change?

My Computer

Another question - sorry. I am now recording something as a test and I am noticing something odd. It may have been this way for normal 'watching, too, but I didn't notice - I was so thrilled to have channels! The sound is running about 3-4 seconds behind the video. Whats up with this?

My Computer

I dont know your hardware specifically but if it allows for more than one profile, you could setup profile A for antenna, profile C for cable and input the correct channels>

Hope this helps and let us know if you need any help

Ken
