Problems after installing Office Professional 2010

Hello,
I have a Samsung netbook with Windows 7 starter edition, 250GB HD and 1MB of RAM.
I purchased it with a trial version of Office Home and Student which has expired.
I am a public sector employee which entitles me to a discount on Microsoft Office Professional 2010 which I have downloaded and installed after unistalling Home and Student 2007 using the Programs and Features in Control Panel.
Now, when I open Excel 2010, if I make a new file and save it, it works fine. But when I try to open an Excel file from Office 2007 or 2003, it will open but if I try to change the file or save it as an Office 2010 file, excel stops working and shuts down.
Windows has no solutions to this problem.
I have checked for updates, but all that windows update offers are updates for the 2007 version of Office.
Can anyone tell me if there is a solution for this?
THanks

I do not think that there is a solution. You will be able to use and read 2007 files, but not able to give them the increased features of 2010

Hello,
THanks for your replies. I have no problem (so far anyway) saving a file I created in Excel 2010 . The problem comes when I try to open and save a file that was made in Office 2003 or 2007 as anything in 2010. The application freezes and I cannot do anything except shut it down.
I have tried to save this file as all different things but the save button freezes the application.

I meant to download Enterprise 2007 from the Microsoft Home User Programme but somehow or another got 'Office Professional 2010' . Maybe I got stuck with a beta?
Not sure what I got....

Any help would be appreciated...

Hiya,
Unfortunately, I can't get as far as that. Excel stops working as soon as I hit the 'save as' option.

Yes, 1MB. It's a netbook. Office 2007 worked ok on it..

Hi guys.. just an update.
I tried uninstall and reinstall and browsing around for possible solutions.
The problems seems to be with Excel only.
I'd be grateful for any suggestions as to where to look for help..
Thanks

Have you tried to run the Microsoft Office Diagnostics tool? It’s in your MS Office Folder.

Upgraded the power supply to 600Watt, in order to get the Nvidia 8800 graphics card to run. And added 1GB of memory even through 32 bit Vista will not use it all.
Hi DRavenWraith,
I did think of that, but it isn't in the new MS 2010 folder..

@theog
No, no beta..
Thanks
:)
