Is There A Music Program That Rivals Musicmatch Jukebox?

Sorry if this seems like a dumb question, I hope someone is familiar with this program. It was a free download (well, one version was) and it used to be associated with Yahoo! Afterwards, Yahoo! stopped sponsoring it and it could no longer be downloaded from their website. They still have that "sorry, Yahoo! doesn't support this anymore" or some message like that.

Which is why the only place you can find the setup .EXE file for this program is from second-hand sources on the internet like brothersoft.com, I think it is called.

Well, what I remember from this program is that it had truly, the BEST equalizer options I've ever seen...it really makes the music being played sound like you are there right before it. The sound can become so crystal clear, and the treble and bass would be perfect if you raise the 8 or 10 bars just the right amount (make them form a hill).

However, with programs like RealPlayer or Windows Media Player...I could not even get close to the sound quality with their equalizers, as the one for Musicmatch Jukebox.

The reason I'm asking if there's a rivaling program in this regard (quality of sound via equalizer) is because....Musicmatch Jukebox is non-compatible with Vista and Windows 7 (dammit...) I'm not sure why, but it's just not, and I'm not sure of a way around this.

The only other program that I think MAY rival or be better than Musicmatch...is iTunes. However I'm not sure if iTunes is better (when it comes to the equalizer and how much better it can make music sound better).

Would anyone here say iTunes is of higher quality in this sense? Or is iTunes just better because more people use it and has better library options? Which has the better equalizer in your opinion?

The quality of a song depends on the bitrate, for example a song of 128kbps is much lower quality then a song of 320kbps.

Before I continue, do you wish to purchase music through the software, or just play existing files on your computer?

And do you wish to transfer these files onto a portable media device such as an ipod?

Well I know that bitrate is important. I'm talking about how good the quality is of the program playing it.

And I'm not buying anything. I'm just playing existing music files.

So which free music player is the best? Personally I would say it is something that plays just music files so that it would seem it specializes in this, unlike something like Windows Media Player, Realplayer, DivX (although I'm going to try this one out later) and VLan etc. which have crappy sound options.

Someone recommended WinAmp, do you think this is the best free music program?

Approximately how many songs do you have? Do you have them on CDs? How big is your hard drive?

The reason I ask this, is because a friend of mine recommended that I use FLAC (free lossless audio codec) to rip my songs. FLAC rips songs at the highest quality possible, however they are quite large files so a large amount of storage is needed.

You will notice the difference in quality however it will mean that you have to rip the CDs over again.

And back to your question, from here you have the choice of whatever media player that you like, as long as you have the FLAC codec:

Free-Codecs.com :: Download FLAC 1.2.1 : FLAC stands for Free Lossless Audio Codec

I would personally recommend Windows Media Player because you already have it installed on your computer and you cannot remove it, so you might as well use it. It has a simple yet effective interface and is a fairly lightweight program.

If you do not want to use windows media player, then I have heard that WinAmp is good however I have no personal experience with it, so I can only tell you what others tell me. It is meant to have very good equalizer settings.

Why don't you give it a try and you can uninstall it if you don't like it?
