Unable to uninstall "paltalk toolbar

I have tried to uninstall "paltalk" by the control panel "uninstall" unsuccessfully.
I get first a message "do you want to uninstall" and then it goes to "preparing to uninstall" and it never does?
Cannot figure out what the problem is

Revo checks for related items in other locations and asks you to confirm that they are in fact related to the application and can be deleted. Just check them out and see if they contain entries that are related to what you are uninstalling and if so, check the box and authorize the deletion. If you're unsure, leave it alone and the application will not be entirely uninstalled (those parts you don't select will remain on your system) but most of it should still be uninstalled and it will probably be fine (though you may find some parts of the application popping up because they weren't removed).

I just did one (a Revo uninstall) to refresh my memory and it first presented me with confirmation that I wanted to uninstall, then it provided a registry location that was entirely related to that application but the normal uninstall hadn't removed so I checked the box and that too was deleted, then it provided a list of 4 files that were related that otherwise hadn't been removed and I checked them all and they too were deleted. That application is now completely gone from my system. It wasn't merely a test either - I actually did want to delete that application so you've helped me get rid of an unwanted program from my system.

It may seem a bit complicated asking you to decide if some deletion is related and should be done, but if you check out the entries carefully, you should be able to tell if they are related and are thus unnecessary. In most cases this will be the case (otherwise it wouldn't have presented them) but in some cases it identifies something that should be retained by mistake (which is why it gives you the option to choose). If you choose not to delete what it proposes it will still continue and uninstall the rest of the program (though some pieces may be left behind and take up space but should not prove to be a problem).

Uninstalling is totally different than deleting folders in Program Files. When a program is installed, it adds files in many places throughout the system besides just the Program Files folder - in Vista system folders, sometimes in other application system folders, and of course in the registry. These are often very hard to locate as they sometimes have names that don't relate at all to the program and can be almost anywhere. Simply deleting the folders in Program Files will not remove any of these other entries and they may cause you some problems later (or at least take up space for no reason) and may prevent a proper uninstallation from ever working (and if you got as far as you did with Revo (to the remaining deletions phase), then I believe it was working and would eventually do the job correctly).

PLEASE try Revo again and this time go through the remaining deletion suggestions and do your best to identify and remove anything that appears related to the program. If in doubt and you want assistance, copy the options provided and post them here and we'll look at them and try to help confirm that it's OK to delete the suggestions. There shouldn't be too many choices to make as there's a limit to how much the program installled.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

It may be best to use Revno, it is proven and it has helped many.

I would strongly recommend against this. Although it does have its uses in a few, very specialist cases, under normal circumstances, this is a big No-No. It deletes the majority of files, but it leaves files in other locations, and it leaves the registry entries. This can cause three problems.

1: The registry startup locations are left. This may cause file not found errors, or slow the system startup down as it searches for the files, and then eventually, gives up.

2: It leaves orphaned files, folders, and registry keys on the system. The QuickTime and iTunes package would leave about 650, mainly registry keys.

3: It will remove or break the uninstaller.

On the other hand, it does easily and quickly remove the program, to a further, or lesser extent. I would not recommend this, and only as a last resort.

I personally don't like Revo uninstaller either. I have seen it cause problems, and one problem was so bad we had to clean install eventually. If you want to perform a manual uninstall, then here are some better ways of going about it.

Since this is a toolbar, it is likely to have its files documented, as Toolbars are often harder to remove, and often annoying, even if they are not exactly malware.

The best thing to do would be to search "Manual Removal of (Paltalk Toolbar)" in Google, find a link which shows the files, and have a look at that. Do not be tempted by the automatic uninstallers, they are worse that the Toolbar. For example, here is one I found: How to uninstall PaltalkScene - Final Uninstaller Uninstall Tutorials

We could now create a script to remove the files and folder. It may look bad, and a lot of files, but you will notice that most are in a single folder, so not too big a script. The registry is harder, but generally I would say that remove traces from the HiJackThis log and you will be fine. This requires specialist training, and so I will do this part if it comes to it. The only keys (registry keys look like folders, values like files) that should be deleted are the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\uninstall\paltalk8.2\ and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\paltalk although this again is not ideal. Again, try to avoid a manual removal, but this is enough if it is really necessary.
