Solved problems uninstalling programmes

I have fujitsu seimans esprimo laptop with windows vista home basic 32 bit. There is 0% disk space free and it offers to let me uninstall programmes through control panel/programmes and features but when I attempt to do this it either states that there is not enough memory space or does nothing, or rather it says it is uninstalling but when I check later in the day its in the same place. I have average computer knowledge but am far from being an expert so any advice would be much appreciated. At this stage it wont link to my printer as there isn't enough disk space. Also if I were to attempt a system restore would this remove programmes that have been installed after the restore point date or would they remain? If there is anything else you need to know please ask.
Thank you

Try going to Start => All Programs => Accessories => System Tools and click on Disk Cleanup.
You may not have enough free space to run an uninstall.

After you get a bit of room I would get MalwareBytes Anti-malware

and run a scan. Maybe some malware is filling up your system by generating junk files. Unless of course you remember letting all the garbage accumulate. :)

Sorry should have said I've already tried that. I think it's full of junk. It's my brothers laptop and he has learning difficulties so if he's online and something pops up saying 'if you don't download this your computer will die or get filled with bugs etc' he downloads it. When I try it puts a box up with 'Out of disk space--Volume:'C'; required space: -492kb; available space: 4kb'. Need a way to free some disk space.
Thank you

Hi mellee70,

Let’s first delete Temporary files from the computer and do a disc clean-up, see if the disc space increases. Please use the following link for detailed instructions on disc clean-up: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76073-disk-cleanup.html

Also for Temporary files: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/104637-temporary-files-temp-folder.html

If issue persists, try disk defragmentation and check if it works, please use the following link for detailed instructions: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/72832-disk-defragmenter.html
After that, uninstall the programs which are not required.

Please post the results.

Did you look to see how much stuff is in the Recycle Bin? Maybe there's a couple of GB in there. Try emptying the Recycle Bin first.

Recycle bin empty, have gained 7.82kb with Disk Cleanup, that has given me enough to start uninstalling through programmes and features. Thank you for your help

Sure thing. If you have one big C: partition set up then the best single thing you can do to smooth out the running of the machine, other than buying hardware like ram or drives, is to run with more than 50% free disk space. I used to run XP with only 20% free space. But once the machines came with larger drives, like 200 GB and larger, I started running with more and more free space. 50% free. Now I try to run with 70% free disk space and park my data on external drives or bare drives in docking stations. Defrags take less than 1/2 hour. Everything is smoother. :)
