I have a Realtek AC'97 audio card and it's been working good, but now all I hear coming out of it is this sort of zooming, I recon it's got something to do with my hardware, but can there be any other causes that I can fix without opening my case?

Tnx

If it's a zooming sound then to me it sounds like you have an environmental effect setting turned on.

Look through your sound device software again and make sure you have environmental effects turned off.

Fighting Scallion, I don't think it's a driver problem because it worked fine untill my mom moved my pc. I think there must be a wire loose or something. thanks anyway!

dmex: No there's no sound coming out of it at all. thanks anyway!

Clevo: Ok, I'll try that.

That for the help y'all;)

I think you need to rivert to the older driver.

remember with Realtek drivers you have to install twice...the first installation removes the old one and the second install installs the new one.

So..re-install the latest driver again...see if that fixes it up as itr sounds like you have only done one run through.

Moving the PC shouldn't muck up the sound like that.

Would that help if the sound was fine even after installing vista, Clevo? I installed Vista and had good sound, but then after like 1 month or so, the sound was totally gone one day...

It would seem unusual for that to happen and if that is what happen then we have to think about that maybe it is something you have installed or changed in the last month that may have caused a problem.

Firstly we check the basics, making sure everything is plugged in properly, like speaker cables.

We then check to make sure nothing has been muted... so in Control Panel make sure sound properties haven't been switch to digital or analog (test both), make sure speakers have not been Muted and that correct devices are working properly.

Clevo I tried to install a new driver for the Realtek AC 97 audio, but it says I'm missing a program/file to open it. Something with ZIP.

Thanks

I managed to download one, but now when I change any settings and click ok I get:

WINDOWS HOST PROCESS (RUNDLL32) HAS STOPPED WORKING
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

(I've seen that screen a lot more times then I want to since I got vista...)

Clevo, I have reinstalled the 6280 version of my realtek driver, because before I had a new one installed through windows update. However, I still don't have any sound at all, except for the buzzing. Is it possible that my sound card is simply broken, or can there be another cause? Because I don't have anything muted or have any environmental effects on...

No offence taken... yes..it's possible it's simply broken or possibly, something happen that you don't remember happening.

I mean..it must have worked at some stage, and something happened that stopped it working...we have to figure out what that was.

Yes well, one day my mum asked me to remove my pc somewhere, which I did and when I moved it back, the sound was gone. But I'm sure you can't do anything with that. If I show you a zoomed in picture of the audio section of my motherboard, could you see if there's something loose...? Otherwise, I'll just go to a pc shop...

Hi Amplid,

From what you say in your last post, it does seem as though you have dislodged some of the internal connections whilst moving your PC. Remove the cover(s) of your machine and, refering to your system manual, check that ALL connections are firmly made. For your information, a new driver has just been released. See my other post in the 'Drivers' section of the forums (link given below).

Hey Dwarf,

Yes I already did that, but as I'm not a professional (at all) and my pc is custom built, so NO manual, I haven't noticed anything, if I show you a detailed picture, could you find something? Probably not:p I'll try the driver and if that doesn't work, I'll simply go to a pc shop.
