my x-fi graphic equalizer settings have no effect on the sound output?

I have a new x-fi titanium. I'm using the optical out to my amp for stereo sound mix. None of the x-fi effects do anything to alter the sound in anyway? At 1st no sound except windows test sounds would even output through the optical out, then all of a sudden it worked for some reason? but none of the bass boost settings are having any effect and the output is low? Anybody have any experience with these sound cards? It's OEM and the instructions on the disc have broken links to retrieve the data online?

Hi

Have you selected SPDIF when using your optical out? If so, then all the x-fi features are turned off.

No I never selected the SPDIF option, when I did try that it just gave off a mad pulse kinda sound in my speakers. Anyway I had to send the card back as it was stopping my pc from booting up after installing the drivers. Those vista creative drivers are abit dodgy & bloaty. I also tried daniel k's drivers, much better but still had the boot problems. Think i'll get an asus Xonar instead, thank you for your response.
