no sound on flash player (on youtube) using any browsers

Hello there,
I have no sound on flash player over the browsers. The sound works perfectly fine when I am playing any movies or mp3 with any players such as real player, Windows media player, VLC, core player and so on. I had the latest version of flash player which was working just fine in all browsers before.

I was doing some housekeeping on my laptop and I might have deleted some registries or something by mistake, not 100% sure though.

same day I noticed I had problem hearing youtube while the video part is playing just fine and the microphone settings of the flash player is showing activities.

I tries tons of things such as uninstalling - reinstalling different versions of flash players. uninstalling -reinstalling codec packs, adding things to the registry which comes with different names like youtubefix.reg or missing.reg, trying different browsers, and unfortunately so far none of them worked for me.

One thing weird I have noticed (and I'd like someone explain it to me) is that as soon as I activated the guest user on my laptop and I logged in as the guest user, I was able to hear voice over the flash. I am assuming that there is nothing wrong with the flash player. So I thought maybe I should just create another user account and transfer my file and documents to that user account. I got back to work and I did created a new USER as an admin and logged in to try it before transferring my folders and documents. Here is the freaky part, there was no voice agian via the flash player. I tried again and again by logging off and in back to different user accounts, non of them was working except for the GUEST one.
I know Guest user is an standard user. so I made a new standard user and to my surprise , when logged in and it worked again.
I thought lets experience this again, differently. I downgraded one of my new admin users I had to a standard one and upgraded one of the newly created standard USER to have the admin power.
I then logged in to each of them, and noticed that I have voice via flash player when logging as of a standard user and shockingly no voice when logging in with an admin USER account.
I tried it again a few times with downgrade or upgrading the type of users and all was the same : no voice via flash player when logging in as an admin USER.

I know I can fix this by reinstalling the windows again, but I hope some one with insight to user profiles and registry in vista can help me find a quicker way to fix.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Look at point 5 below which might fall in with different accounts working. I tried for 2 months and it was as simple as the permissions on the that registry key. Disable UAC and make sure your working on this with an account with administrator level.

Check if the file msacm32.drv is present in your Windows system32 folder. If not, copy it from another PC (that has the same version of Windows) and place the file in the system32 folder. This applies to Vista and 7 64Bit but in the SysWOW64 directory which is the folder for the 32 bit programs running on the 32bit virtual machine.

A very common sound problem is an incorrect or missing registry key for msacm32.drv discussed in the preceding.

  1. Launch Registry Editor by typing regedit at Run command.
    2. Navigate to the following registry key:

For XP and Vista 32Bit:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32

  1. 3. On the right pane, and check for existence of “wavemapper” registry subkey, the mail culprit
causing Flash no sound. If not found, create a new String value named “wavemapper”, and give the
entry value “msacm32.drv”. If wavemapper entry is already existed, ensure that its value data
    is“msacm32.drv”.

For XP and Vista and 7 64bit:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32

4. On the right pane, and check for existence of “wavemapper” registry subkey, the mail culprit
causing Flash no sound. If not found, create a new String
value named “wavemapper”, and give the entry value “msacm32.drv”.
If wavemapper entry is already existed, ensure that its value data is “msacm32.drv”.

5. In addition the permissions/security on these keys can prevent your browser flash plugin from
accessing them and preventing sound. Also if you receive errors editing or the key is blank you
need to check the permissions by right clicking on the key and choosing permissions. Choose
Advanced and make sure that the Administrators, System, Users Groups have "Full Control" under
permissions if not select them and click Edit and tick “Full Control" under the "Allow" column.

Hi ramontana

Thanks for your time.
I did what you mentioned above with no luck.

MsacM32.drv was there.
Although the permission for user and administrators and System was exactly the same in which none of them had Full Control, I only changed administrators and System to Full Control, after taking over the ownership of the msacm32.drv. I intentionally left the user groups untouched( I didn't want to mess with what was working already)
The result: Sadly Administrator group still does not work while USER group with less permission still works.

It really is driving me crazy.

any new suggestions.
