Windows Defender - Y! Messenger Startup Block

hi all,

hope i'm posting in the right place as i think Windows Defender is classified as a System/Security feature.

My problem is that Windows Defender is blocking my Yahoo Messenger 8.1 during startup.

I keep getting the Startup Program blocked notification whenever i boot up Vista although i have already disabled the Windows Defender services.

I've tried to uninstall and reinstall YM after restarting numerous times and the problems still persists.

FYI, I did a installation of the YM for Vista version and encountered no problems.

Anyone has any ideas ? Let me know if any further info is required

Much appreciated !

To isolate the issue disable UAC ( User Account Control ).

1. Click on Start, Go to Control Panel
2. Click on User Accounts and Family Safety
3. Then click on User Accounts
4. Then click on Turn User Account Control On or Off
5. Uncheck the box User User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer
6. Click OK

However, the Notebook needs to be restarted so that the changes can take effect.

thanks for advice, i tried to disable UAC and yes, the Windows Defender notification does not appear.

but i'd rather have UAC enabled (in quiet mode via TweakUAC).

any suggestions ?

hi dmex,

FYI, I did a installation of the YM for Vista version and encountered no problems.

thanks for the suggestion but yep, i tried that and it works like a charm but unfortunately there's ALOT of features that are missing from the Vista version.

seems that yahoo only made the Vista version to take advantage of Vista better graphical UI

Sorry, I just skimmed the reply :o

The blocked Start-up notifications are for programs requiring UAC permissions at start-up right? You either need to remove the entrys or disable UAC because you cant autostart programs requiring UAC permission.

Thats by design to prevent "DOSS" style attacks using UAC Administrative prompts.
