Can't delete shortcuts with security shield

Oriiginal problem was that error message Micorsoft Feeds Synchronization has Stopped Working - no further explanation. Have tried several things - no help. Tried downloading AVG virus checker as Avast gives error about bad parameter when starting. Created some files on the Desktop. Couldn't run them, get The Paramter is incorrect, error message, and the icons have the Vista Security shield on them. finally went into safe mode and was able to download and install and run AVG, but now when I try to delete the downloaded files or their shortcuts, get error message C:\ is not accessible, access denied - but this is same login files were downloaded to AND user has admin priviledges. Any ideas as to how to fix this?

Tried turning UAC off, and that didn't seem to help. found some viruses in deleted emails, but didn't find any active ones.

Saw post about possible problem with RSS feeds and turning automatic updates off. I did that but still get error message about Sync not working every few minutes.

Another clue is that I get an error message when skype starts up that Skype Extras can't be started and give an error number.

this is on an Hp pavilion dv2000 with Vista Ultimate x64 with all updates, SP1 and update released today.

Thanks for any help or clues

Hi, lilliewilde, and welcome to the forums.

I understand the original error message, but the rest gets a little lost. The post your saw about RSS feeds - can you link to it?? Also, have you run any *external* (as in online) scans? If your system is already infected with something it is *possible* that it infects a newly installed AV program as well.

However, I think that running
Code:
SFC /SCANNOW
and listing of exacts steps you have done to fix the problem will help us determine a solution - steps that you may have taken such as changing registry entries, the files that you are trying to delete / have deleted, etc.

Thanks for the welcome. Thanks for the help - problem seems to have fixed itself!
I ran SFC, found no problems. Sorry, don't have a link to the RSS feeds post, but it basically thought that the issue with Microsoft Feeds Synchronization Not Working was related to Automatic Updates and suggested turning it off. I did that, but didn't make any difference. Someone else had suggested turning UAC off, so I did that, and then I was able to delete the files with the Vista Security Shield on the icons with no problems. One of them asked me to confirm when deleting, but the other two files didn't. The good news is that I also didn't get the Sync. message anymore. I was also getting an error message about the Media Center Update Manager has Stopped Working, so I looked that up and found a link to a Microsoft repair for it - which was basically to delete it's database and then restart it, which I did and that problem went away. I then turned UAC back on and rebooted and now I'm not getting any problems. If anything comes back, I'll let you know.

Regards

David
