Local Security Policy

Under Administrative tools, I don't see " Local Security Policy" to set some of the advanced Security UAC policies. I have 1 Laptop running Basic, 1 Running Premium and neither have the Policies Im looking for.

I have Business Vista loaded in Virtual PC to play around with settings and such, and this does have it. Does Local Security Policy only come on business and above versions of Vista?

To map this out: Start=>Control Panel=>System and Maintance=> Admin Tools. Off of Admin Tools I should see "Local Security Policy" But I dont. Any Ideas why?

Did as you instructed, No change when I opened the Admin Tools. You have changing a "0" to "1". What difference would it make if it was already at "3"?

I do not believe those version have the local security policy

Hey guys,

There is no way to have Local Security Policy on them versions of windows, If you need to change all the options (including UAC) they can be found in the registry and group policy (gpedit.msc) ;)

Hi garaboldi,

Both 'Local Security Policy' and 'Group Policy Editor' are only included in the Business and Ultimate versions of Vista. They enable a systems administrator (the person in charge of the I.T. department) to quickly and easily implement security related policies on a number of machines without too much hassle. Both these tools are front-end interfaces, and much (but not all) of the changes affect values in different parts of the registry. Some of these changes can be implemented in the Home editions of Vista, but this involves editing the registry which, if you are uncertain as to what you are doing, can lead to problems which might necessitate the reinstallation of Vista. One of the main reasons why they are not included in the Home editions but are included in the Busines and Ultimate editions of Vista is that they are, or can be, classed as a 'Business Tool'.
