Vista Firewall Will Not Turn On

Hello,

First we need to pull up your application logs to see if there are any errors there. Go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer, or type eventvwr.msc in the start menu search box and hit enter.

Do you see any errors? If so, post the Event ID, Source, and the error message details as well.

Is the windows firewall service enabled?

Open a command prompt as admin and type the following...

  • Sc config MpsSvc start= auto
  • Net start MpsSvc
  • Netsh set firewall opmode enable
In that order, do not type it any other way apart from the way i have typed it. Copy and paste might be a good idea here.

You also may have to consider the possibility that your system has been infiltrated by a hacker. If you think this is the case you should either install a thrid party firewall for example COMODO and disable windows firewall or type the following command to reset your firewall. This will remove any changes a hacker may have made and everything will be blocked again until you unblock it when it pops up on the screen.

Command - Netsh firewall reset

Let us know if that helps :)

Just today got a warning that my Firewall wasn't turned on. Tried to turn it on and it won't respond. Any ideas?

If you are not running an Antivirus suite (which commonly disables Vista Firewall)

then do this and turn it on:

Start>in search, type firewall>click "windows firewall with advanced security">click continue>In center, click "windows firewall properties" If, ot on, tur firewall state to on in the following, then click apply.

My Computer

Hallo Mykei, can you go into your Control Panel then Security Centre & see what your firewall is displaying.
If you select Firewall there will be a tab saying view installed firewall programs or something of that nature.
This will enable us to determine that there is no third party firewall installed, if the second option is not there then we would assume there is only Windows Firewall.
If there is a third party firewall then it will most likely have disabled Windows firewall as you should only have one active firewall.
If you are sure you only have Windows firewall then check that Windows Firewall in Services is set to Auto this tutorial will show you how;

Once this is done restart your computer then turn Windows Frewall on;

I hope this is of some help :D
