Hello. Can anyone recommend a bit of software that will allow me to contol my secondary PC thats networked from my Primary. In other words, control all aspects of the computer, from launching apps, moving the cursor remotely etc, etc.
Cheers.

Edit: Home Premium does not have the options that Ultimate etc have.

Someone on here said they got VNC working fine from vista using an odd port, but I've never seen it work very well... it's very very slow even with aero disabled.

I use logmein.com to remote into my vista box. Check around there or gotomypc.com for a free account.

What wrong with using Windows own "Remote Desktop"......?

First you have to enable incoming remote desktop sessions on the pc to be controlled.
Then enter all the correct information into the RDP config, and your away!!

I do this at home.
I have machine that i use to download torrents, and its just the box. No keyboard, mouse or monitor ever get plugged into it.
Easy......:)

Oh right i didn't realise that....my bad.

So Home Premium doesn't have RDP at all????!?!!?

You gots to pay to play!

Seriously, anything under Business or Ultimate is crippleware. There's a detailed chart floating around on microsoft.com somewhere that shows all of the removed features you don't get without paying the Ultimate price *snort*

Yes Premium does not have RDP as phazed correctly points out, thats why I was after a third party software solution.
Phazed...yes, but unfortunately Im stuck with Premium, so...Ill check out your suggestions. Thank You all for the input.

OK, seems fine, but is there anything that does not use the internet to connect to my other PC? All I want is to connect within the LAN, not use the WAN. Cheers.

Can't believe that anything under business or premium, doesn't even have RDP.
Microsoft are really penny pinching aren't they........
Ripping the consumers off again!!!

Dunno if any of these are free...but here's a good list of what rdp software is out there. clicky

But i have just found this that may be of use. From reading the comments it does work, but not sure about with x64 version.
Anyway nothing to loose by giving it a try i guess.....clicky

Wow, thanks for the bottom link. It gave me links to find other places where to get this to work. Heres where I ended up, followed the instructions and now it works. Many Thanks.

I haven't seen anyone mentioning it. There is one application that might become the solution it's P2P based and "should" work anywhere. It's called TeamViewer and it free for home and personal use. It allows remotely control computer, transfer files and chat. Requires almost no setup.

Use VNC Enterprise V4.18 for remote workstation control. My OS is Vista Ultimate x64/SP1 V.275. For remote control of a PC in a network, I obtained "VNC Enterprise-E4_3_2-x86_x64_win32.exe" Version 4.18. Works super. One thing though is the remote display "may" switch, during the connection, to 'Vista-Basic' from 'Windows Aero'. Speed and sensitivity is great. One thing that is also great is that it displays mutilple monitors if the remote workstation should have more by panning right-to-left using the scrollbar.

Use VNC Enterprise V4.18 for remote workstation control. ...

Well, I was looking for a free solution for the remote control. If you bought up VNC, then there is UltraVNC as well, which is free.
With TeamViewer however, there is no need to setup any of the port forwarding and it does not require any setup. And it is free, unlike Real VNC which is 21 Euro for personal edition and 35 Euro for Enterprise. With the commericial solutions there are quite a few choices, together with VNC, there is RemotelyAnywhere, PC Anywhere and so on. But again, I was looking for a free solution.
