ATI vs. Nvidia

#1
If I buy a new graphics card, which brand's card should I use? Nvidia or ATI?

Thanx!

I assume it's not for the notebook in your specs?

We need a few more details mate. Both have great cards, but there a few other factors to consider.

Like the specs for the machine it's going in, what games you plan to play, are you planning on running a dual/triple card setup in the futere etc

Well like they said for laptopps and such usually you dont have much choice. for desktops its all on what you want ATI is a good company and they are cheaper. i use them but NVIDIA is very well known for superb Performance. kinda like the Lambourghini of Graphics Cards. still Dont get me wrong ATI has great cards but they are more like Ferrari's if that makes any sense.

Nvidia to the death.

Most games are written for their cards, their drivers actually occasionally improve performance, and the performance of the current best nvidia card in SLI - the GTX 295 massacres any ATI offering with a suitable i7 processor and RAID setup along with plenty of RAM.

I suppose a simple list is in order:

1. What PSU (brand and wattage) are you using?
2. What games/programs do you plan on using?
3. Do you plan on using multiple cards in the future (SLI, Crossfire)?
4. What processor and motherboard are you using?

If you can answer these questions then we can answer yours.

um...... i would not say that.........as a 4870x2 outpreforms the geforce 295........... and a single 4890 is only 40 fps slower on fear2 than the 2 core 295........ so that means a cf 4890 will out preform a 295.....

buy the best for what you can get for your money.

to ask someone else what brand to get is really a disservice to you. you got two choices--ati and nvidia--read some comparative reviews and make the choice yourself.

but it really comes down to my first sentence--buy the best card you can for the money you have.

Throwing some coal on the fire here but I have two 3870x2 in crossfire and wondering if for my use for Video main is better with Nvidia rather than ATI. Looking at specifically the 285 or 295 compared to the two 3870x2's. I have seen that they are preetty close in output quality but as I am no gamer I wonder if the movies that will benefit from a true HDMI out put from the Nvidia will offer a better quality picture on a 50 inch Plasma? I honestly have had better luck with Nvidia in the past due to the software updates but I just can't help myself for getting a deal on the ATI cards either as I did. I am honestly looking for the best quakity in movies from the PC to the Panasonic Plasma I have. I do not have a stand alone player for BD discs as you can see in my system profile. I am just now upgrading to 12 GB system ram at the Corsair Dominator 6GB 3 x 2 GB DDR3 1600 TR3X6G1600C8Dwith the X58 Chipset on a Gigabyte X58 UD4P MB. Lets see how the clock freq works first! LOL! I don't overclock so we shall see how the clock speed works. Overclocking with these limits the clock speeds.I do a lot of BD programs so this is important to me. Back ups and stuff! I have 2 small children!!!!!!!!!!!! They think discs are like frisbees! LMAO:sa:

It was 2 GTX 295's in SLI, which are better than a 4890 or Crossfire. The drivers for a 4870X2 are rubbish and most games are built for nvidia cards. Have you ever seen ATI the way its meant to be played?

Nvidia to the death.

Most games are written for their cards, their drivers actually occasionally improve performance, and the performance of the current best nvidia card in SLI - the GTX 295 massacres any ATI offering with a suitable i7 processor and RAID setup along with plenty of RAM.
while i would agree that nvidia has better drivers and has some cards that are more powerful than anything on the market, they arent the most affordable. with the money one would spend on the top nvidia card, one could buy two great ati cards and have far superior performance. so if you want the most for your money ati is a great way to go.

prices on the second one arent accurate. atleast i know they arent for ati.
