Audio / Video playback issues in WMP 11

Well, not sure if this'll work or not - try downloading Windows Media Player
11 from the download site and overwriting it. It's a longshot and not sure
if it'll work - but it might do :o)

Actually I've just checked... it's worthless and won't work :o( Sorry.
The best bet I think... is either posting a screenshot of the error, or
reinstalling Vista? :o(

Hi there,

I just installed Beta 2 of Vista and am having difficulties playing
media in it. Unfortunately I cannot play audio or video. A message is
displayed informing me that the it may be due to an error occuring in
another component that is not capable of informing WMP correctly (It's a bit
of a mouthful).

Anyway, has anyone else experienced this? The only thing I can think of
is that my sound card is not installed, but surely video should still
playback okay?

If the *exact* message is needed I'll log onto Vista again and write it
down. Thanks loads in advance.

Nick.

Hi Zack,

Hurrah, all fixed now, I plugged in my USB VOIP phone and configured it
to play the standard windows sounds, once playing WMP started to work,
including video. Cheers for your help, I've attached the message for anyone
elses reference. It reads...

"Windows Media Player cannoy play the file. This can occur when another
program or operating system component encounters a problem but does not
communicate the nature of the problem to the player".

Which is pretty true in this case, but still pretty cryptic.

Nick.

I had a similiar issue with WMP11 playing back the video, but with no audio
and playing back the video at 10x normal speed.

I suspected it may have something to do with my audio driver (onboard audio
on Intel motherboard) and so plugged in some USB speakers I had. And sure
enough the video plays back with audio and at normal 1x speed.

I've logged a bug on this.

Cheers
