I am having the same problem. When I first installed Vista a couple months
ago, I had no problems seeing thumbnails....then I starting getting these
Nero error messages, and ever since, I can no longer view picture or video
thumbnails....I cant for the life of me figure out why. Please, does anyone
know how to fix this problem.

P.S. Nero is no longer installed on my machine, and I still cannot view
thumbnails.

Cannot view any thumbnails in Widows Explorer using Windows Vista Ultimate. This used to work but does not work anymore. The images begin to open then revert to an image placeholder icon. Changing the icon size does not change or resolve this issue. This occurs in all my picture files regardless of number of images in the file, type of images, edited or unedited, etc. There are registry fixes for this identical issue for other versions of Windows but I cannot find anything for Vista. It is reported that this issue could occur when uninstalling software, though I have not recently uninstalled anything. I use Adobe Photoshop, and save all images as JPEG. HELP!! Thanks.

Thank you Barb. System restore has been attempted but did not work. I have no problem with images on my laptop, also running Vista Ultimate, only on the HP desktop.

use at your own risk:

copy all the text in red to the clipboard

paste into a new notepad file. save with a .reg extension to
something like "fixthumb.reg"

then double click it

Barb, Thanks for the reply. I replied to this thread 'cause i have exactly the same issue; that is, after installing the lastest version of nero I can no longer see thumbnail images within explorer on Vista Ultimate.

So I appied your related registry fix outlined in the above link, which had no impact, however there was warning message (attached) saying all entries could not be applied. I also tried to apply the reg file in safe mode, however this returned the same message.

do you have a system restore point print to when you installed Nero?
please try that.

What file types can't you see thumbnails for?

It's most important to restore all those "9DBD..." and "031E" registry
entries. Those are the Property Thumbnail Handlers, you like them.
Basically, look at that file. Search for "shellex\{" - all those matches
are the preview handlers. Are those set on your system?

It started maybe just two days ago and I read somewhere that it may have something to do with photo editing software being installed, but I'm not sure about the validity of that and I don't want to go through uninstalling the software just to find out that it wasn't the problem because it took a while to install the first time through. I've tried going to Folder Options from the Control Panel and clicking Always Show Icons, Never Thumbnails. Just like his/her problem, the thumbnails show up but just as quickly they go back to the seat and mountain icon.
Does anyone have an answer to this? If not, I may go through the
uninstallation and see of that was what the problem was, but this particular
solution might not help everyone's case.

I read this post in a hurry so if I missed the obvious please forgive me.
Before applying the registry fix, try..
In any folder click on "tools", then "folder options", then click on the "view" tab and unclick "always show icons and never thumbnails". Hope this helps some of you.
