Can't send email with attachments

#1
I can receive email with attachments with no problem. I can send email without attachments with no problem. Whenever I attempt to send an email with any attachment, small or large, the system times out and gives me an error message

"Task 'mail.comcast.net - Sending' reported error (0x8004210B) : 'The operation timed out waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).' "

It does not seem to be the program - Outlook - since I tried another email program and got the same results. My wife sends emails with no problem on another computer in the same network and same ISP.

My gut tells me it is windows Vista Home Premium since it all started with the new computer.

I am having the exact same problem with my new laptop. I'm using window email
in Vista ultimate, and I use comcast too. I wonder if comcast mail is
conflicting with vista.

Both of you may want to check your Comcast email account under
Windows Mail.

<http://www.comcast.net/help/faq/index.jsp?faq=Emailtop17686&cookieattempt=1>

These instructions were written for use under Outlook Express,
but should also work under Windows Mail if you avoid the
One Click Fix.

emailed me back within about 10, that was great. It seems to work. It took a
minute to push the attatchment thru, but no freeze ups.

My husband has the same problem except he uses charter mail. What settings
did you have to adjust to fix the problem?

Charter suggested breaking up my emails so that the size won't be so large.
Okay so that's fine but I still can't send messages with even one photo.

Are you closing all other programs that access the photos before you
attach them and leaving them closed until the message is sent? Windows
Mail has problems attaching files that are still open else where.

Unknown errors in Windows Mail are often due to interference from an
antivirus program, antispyware program, or antispam program. List
what programs of those types you have, if any. Also, have you ever had
a Norton or McAfee antivirus program installed on that computer?

Does your connection to that server cross over from one internet
provider's equipment to another's before it reaches the server? If so,
such connections to port 25 are often blocked to cause trouble for
spammers, and you need to ask charter.net if their outgoing mail
server will accept outgoing mail through any other port, and if so,
where to find their instructions for switching over to the other port.
Just trying all the ports is a very slow way to find out, since there
are about 65,000 ports available, and it's unlikely that more than a few
of them will accept outgoing mail. Such a port 25 block is seldom
applied only to mail with attachments, though.

The computer has AVG on it and has never had another. My connection to the
server does not cross over another provider. We disabled AVG long enough to
try to send another email with photo attachments and that still didn't work.
Do you have any other suggestions?

Did you use the standard install for AVG? If so, it often helps to
uninstall
it, then do a custom install where you tell it to leave out the part that
scans
email.

Looks like a server time-out because your AVG is causing a delay
by scanning the attachment. Like Robert suggested, uninstall/reinstall
