Changing default Sound Device

Is there any possibility of changing the sound device programatically in Windows 7?
Or atleast to make the device as the default sound device during installation?
In Vista, I could use SetupPreferredAudioDevice key in INF file to make it as default at the time of installation, but I could see that this key is no more valid in Windows 7. Is there any alternative for this?

Note that you shouldve asked on this website instead - Windows 7 Forums

But, to answer your question, Vista and Windows 7 have the option to allow any program to use a particular device automatically. Even when installing any new program.

I am really sorry for posting it here.

But here we are doing that manually, right?'
I am having an application which uses a virtual audio driver and I want that device to be the default sound device when the application starts. So it will be really helpful if can change it programatically. Is that possible in vista and win 7?

By having those box's checked (they are already on default), the program should automatically use THAT default sound device, unless there is an unsupported feature with the program and sound device.

These options are checked in my system and I can also set a device as the default one manually. But I am unable to set this as programatically.
Any program that uses sound, AUTOMATICALLY uses the default sound device that you choose in that area.

If you have installed a new sound device (soundcard), you mainly want to just use the hardware's set of sound device's and disable the onboard sound in your BIOS.

Usually, if the program has a VOIP function (Games for Windows - LIVE, MSN messenger, Steam-based games) in it or either someone uses a DVD codec application (PowerDVD, Nero, Etc.), most of the time they can set what device for THAT program to use when playing/using that program (there is usually an options menu with that function there).

If this still doesnt answer your question, exactly what are you trying to do with a sound device regarding Windows 7?

As I mentioned earlier, I have a virtual audio driver which captures the data and do some processing on audio samples and then routes it to one of the playback sound device. For this, I need this virtual driver to be the default sound device when I am running my application. But I don't want the user to change the sound device, instead I want to insert some code in my application so as to change the sound device. This is very much possible in XP. But it is not supported in Vista and Windows7. In Vista, I could use SetupPreferredAudioDevice key in INF file to make it as default at the time of installation, but I could see that this key is no more valid in Windows 7. So I want to know whether there is any alternative solution for this?
