Disappearing messages

Hi,

I discovered when I looked in my storage folders that most of the messages
had 'disappeared' - quite possibly after WLM had done some 'compacting'.
When I did a search I found what I was looking for - but have no idea where
these messages are stored (I transferred the ones I found back to the
original Storage folder).

Can anyone explain what has happened - if indeed this behaviour is
associated with compacting - and tell me how I undo the process to restore
the messages to my Storage folders.

Thanks,

Ian

Select the problem folder, then View, Current View. Make sure that ONLY
Show All Messages is checked.

How did you search for the missing messages? Was it within WLM or via
Windows?

Hi,

I searched with WLM - and found all the e-mails - though I cannot seem to
find where they are stored. After finding them I can transfer them back to
the Storage Folder - but I would like to know how they all were taken out of
the storage folders - where they have gone - and can they be restored
without having to do a 'search all e-mails'.

I am using Windows XP

Thanks

Ian

If you use Edit, Find, Message (Ctrl+Shift+F) the resulting list has a
column that indicates the folder that the message was found in.

Do you have a folder called 'Recovered items' under 'Storage folders'?

I suspect that your old e-mails are within a subfolder of the 'Recovered items' folder. Keep expanding (double-click to expand/contract folders) the subfolders of the 'Recovered items' folder until you find the subfolder that displays your e-mail.

Once you find your old e-mails, you can highlight them and drag them to their original folder, or use the 'Move to folder' dialog box (Edit | Move to folder...) to move them.
