Drive Access - Restrict or Unrestrict

How to Restrict or Unrestrict Drive Access in Vista and Windows 7

information   Information
This will show you how to restrict all access (open or save) to all content of a drive or combination of drives that you select for all users on the computer.

All drives are set to be unrestricted by default in Vista and Windows 7.
Note   Note

  • When a drive is set as restricted, users can only browse through the drives directory in the Navigatoin Pane folder tree in Windows Explorer by clicking on the arrows to expand the folders. They will not be able to open a folder though in Windows Explorer. (See example below)
  • If you would also like to hide or unhide this drive(s) in Computer and Windows Explorer, then see: How to Hide or Unhide a Drive in Vista
warning   Warning
This will not prevent users from using 3rd party programs to access restricted local and network drives. It also does not prevent administrators from using Disk Management to view and change restricted drive characteristics.
EXAMPLE: Windows Explorer Computer with Navigation Pane
NOTE:
Even when the drive is set as restricted, it will still be displayed in Computer. All users will not be able to access it though. They can only view the directory in the Navigation Pane folder tree.

Wynfryth,

You could do a system restore at boot using a restore point (if available) dated before you made this change to undo it.

i made the attempt at once, however i fail to execute all because it asks me to have a password, and i gave my valid password (number combination so not sensitivities for upper or lower case) but it says wrong password for that account (my account is V R RARAS) but the only available account is Asus, my computer's name and with a password????

im worried now if my files were safe and can't be damage while i'm in this circumstance.

n.b. can i have your email add or skype or yahoo messenger to send u my files i captured in my screenshots, i put them in ms word format i cant clip it here.

Wynfryth,

The tutorial below can show you how to upload and attach screenshots here as a .jpg file if you like. This way everyone will be able to see them, and be able to help as well.

You could try what's at the link below to create a Ubuntu live CD to try and gain access to and backup any files that you do not want to lose. Without access, you may need to reinstall. :(

so, you mean simply that i need to reformat my laptop?

My Computer

Wynfryth,

Without access, you may need to do a factory restore to reinstall Vista. I was recommending the Ubuntu Live CD to hopefully still be able to use to backup anything that you do not want to lose. :(
