error in internet explorer

Hi,

My internet connection was established today, and seems to be working fine - until I click on something like myspace or facebook, whereupon I am told that internet explorer has stopped running and will close. I am then offered the options of exiting the program, or searching online for a solution (which does nothing). I'm guessing that this is something as simple as a security setting that needs changing, but as I have no idea which one I'm a little lost, and would appreciate any help.

Hi GWFHegel,

Welcome to the forum.

You may have a add-on that is misbehaving in Internet Explorer (IE7).

In IE7:
NOTE: In Control Panel (Classic View) click Internet Options.
1. Click Tools - Manage Add-ons - Enable or Disable Add-ons
2. Highlight and Disable a add-on, one at a time, and test to see if IE7 works ok until you find out the culprit.
3. Just Enable the add-on back if that was not the one causing the problem.

Nah, not working - everything is disabled and it's still doing it. It's not the end of the world, as everything works fine with Firefox, but I'd be curious to find out what the problem actually is.

Ok GWFHegel,

Try Reseting IE7 to see if it will clear the error.
1. Open Control Panel (Classic View).
2. Click Internet Options.
3. Click Advanced tab.
4. Click Reset button.
5. Click OK.

Did that, and now have a screen that keeps flashing up 'a site wants to use this program to open internet content' ore something like that. The program is Adobe Flash Player 7, and no matter how many times I click 'allow' it still keeps popping up.

I would uninstall Adobe Flash Player 7 and install the newer Adobe Flash Player 9,0,47,0 instead.

Hi,

I've completely uninstalled Adobe, but each time windows explorer runs I'm told that "A website wants to open web content using this program on your computer: Adobe flash player." It asks if I want to allow this, and if i say yes the same warning keeps popping up for ages; if I say no it reappears anyway.
