How can I delete programs that I have uninstalled off my computer.

How can I delete programs that I have uninstalled off my computer. The
reason I’m asking this is because the program still stays on my computer as
a file ready to be downloaded again.

Sounds like spyware to me, what name is this programme?

I agree it sounds like something that shouldn't be doing what it sounds
like it's doing - that is assuming we understand you properly.

Can you explain what you mean by "Stays on the computer" and what you
mean by "Downloaded again".

Re: How can I delete programs that I have uninstalled off my compu

By Trillion I assume you mean Trillian - best to use Google to find Trillian
Support Forums.

I did find this:

Trillian can be uninstalled from within the Add/Remove Programs section of
your Windows control panel.

If, for some reason, there is no entry for Trillian, the product can
uninstall itself. Simply click your Start button, then Run, then type:

C:\Program Files\Trillian\trillian.exe /uninstall

Click OK, then Trillian will uninstall itself.

If both of these methods do not work, there is one last way to uninstall.
Simply delete the Trillian directory and all of its subdirectories, probably
located in your Program Files directory of Drive C. Also remove any
shortcuts and icons pointing to Trillian.

Trillian does not scatter program libraries outside of its directory, nor
does it place anything in your registry except for uninstall information.

Your message history and personal settings will not be removed during the
uninstall process. If you wish to remove these, you must currently do so by
hand.

For the other one all I can suggest is try this:
http://onecare.live.com/standard/en-us/support/default.htm

You are probably going to have to do a registry cleanup if there are no
entries for these in Add/Remove.

Okay, when you download something from the internet you usually get two
options from the link - Run or Save.

If you choose run the program will usually download to a temporary
folder, install itself and you will never see the temporary file it
leaves behind. If you choose "Save" (Sometimes Save As) it will probably
finish up on your desktop as an "Archive" which you could double click
on to install the program again.

If this sounds like what you have then you can drag those files into the
trashcan, they are not installed but just parked there. To uninstall you
should use the remove option in control panel unless the program has an
option to uninstall.

If you did not uninstall them properly it is a different issue so if
what I said doesn't sound right ask before doing anything.

Okay, well uninstall is not the same as "Delete". In a lot of cases a
"Program" will be removed but folders and some of the data will often
remain. Usually these will be harmless and do nothing except take up an
insignificant amount of space. Usually, but not always, these will be
under the program files folder like Program Files / some company name
like Microsoft and then / Trillian like the actual software name but
this is NOT compulsory. Also these names may be different than you would
expect.

Even uninstalling will not remove these but as long as you are sure the
program has been "Uninstalled" you can safely remove them.

Uninstall "Should" remove relevant registry entries too but sometimes
doesn't, and it can be very dangerous playing around in the registry so
for what space that would save I would say just ignore it. Most programs
require full "Installation" because they use the registry to keep info
from session to session, and if you simply delete something like that
the registry entries will remain and the system might break - so always
use the proper uninstall first. If for any reason you think parts of a
program are left running get specific advice before deleting.

Be especially careful uninstalling security software because sometimes
you have to turn it off and reboot before trying to uninstall it -
always check the makers website for the proper procedure.

Re: How can I delete programs that I have uninstalled off my compu

Peter:

I was reading your posts about uninstalling games. I have a similar problem.

I have a game called AirFix Dogfighter. I installed it and played for a
while. I had created two players/pilots in the game. I then uninstalled it
and looked in the C: Programs directory. Its folder was gone I then installed
it again. The two players/pilots that I had created still existed. Does this
indicate that something was still on my computer after the program was
uninstalled? How can I totally delete a game or application from my computer
if the Control Panel does not list the game/app as being installed?

Also: You mentioned a Registry cleanup. I would like to know more about
this. I think that this is a path somewhere in the system that tells the
computer what is installed on the computer. I will go search for more
information on this myself, but I would appreciate it if you had any links
that I could look at and learn from.
