How do I delete copies of photos in Windows Photo Gallery?

I keep getting copies of the same photo popping up in different folders
I've created, sometimes photos have been "selected" by accident with the
wrong group and end up in the wrong place. When I try to delete them, all
copies of that photo are deleted and I have to go to the recycle bin to
restore them, then they seem to multiply even more and the problem keeps
growing....help ! I'm spending my life at the computer trying to organize my
photos without all the unecessary copies - there is no helpful information
about this in Windows Help!
Another annoying problem is that I cannot get rid of photo subfolders
that I do not want. I inadvertantly made a few subfolders and I cannot delete
them...what gives? How can I fix this issue?

It sounds like you're referring to images showing up under multiple tags not
folders.

This is by design, if an image is tagged as 'Bristol' and 'Zoo' for example,
it will show up under both tags. There is still only one copy of the image.
If you then drag the image into a tag on the left of the window called
'monkeys' it will *also* show up under that tag too. If a date is embedded
in the image it will also show up under '2008' for example.

If you want to remove a tag from an image, the quickest way is to click on
'info', this will open a new pane to the right, clicking on an image then
will show what tags are applied to that image (you can then right-click on a
tag and select delete).

To browse how the files are physically laid out on the disk click on
'Folders' in the pane to the left, that will cut out all the date, tags,
ratings etc. And leave you with just the individual files stored on the
disk - in that view you should see no multiple images unless you actually
have multiple copies of the files.
