Hey there
My Intel E8400 is looking very hot now a days. The cooler is stock. See the pic, is this normal or I need a better cooler?

Check to you've attached the cooler properly first. When I fitted one like it, I didn't connect it properly and it resulted in very hot temps.

Just make sure each connector is pushed down well.

Though a 3rd party cooler will always result in better temperatures as well.

That simply cant be right. Download CPUID the post a screenshot.

Acording to Intel, 72.4c is the max on the e8400
Intel said all E8xxx CPUs that the max TJ temp is 100c from what I've read.

And it looks like your sensors are a bit messed up, especially as it shows -27c for min.

The e8400 has the folliwing max temps:

Tcase Max 72.4c, Tjunction Max 105c

Your Tjunction reading is at 94c so id be worried if that was correct.

Basically your coolings not good enough. Your motherboard, hard drive and cpu temps are way to high. You should invest in more fans and make sure your cooling solution is optimized.

1. Have more fans taking air in than out
2. Intake fans at the front of case with outake at the back
3. Clean out the dust from your pc
4. Invest in a better case if its the case thats causing high temps

I think there might be something wrong with the sensors. -27c min temp?

Is it a pre-built computer or did you build it yourself?

I had a lot of incorrect readings on my old Dell PC. I had motherboard temps of -100c.

Overheated components will begin to throttle themselves, so yea it can result in slower performance.

In cpu-z it shows your running at 1995mhz. With the temps your posting id imagine your pc always runs at that speed and never goes up to the 3Ghz it should.

Yeah but its supposed to go up to 3Ghz when you do something like play a game. But in your case id think it wouldnt or at least wouldnt stay there for long as your so close to max temp already that it would throttle your performance so as to avoid damaging the cpu, getting blue screens of death, crashes etc.

WOW. If i was you id move :D.

But anyway you should clean out your pc just to make sure. Make sure to remove all dust from fans, heatsinks, the motherboard etc.

I dont think all your sensors have gone bad, but clean the pc and if you know how to then you should probably re-apply thermal paste to the cpu and install the heatsink and fan.

Make sure to route all cables as neatly away as possible as well and if possible install more fans.
