Intel HD Graphics 4000 Drivers

Hello,

My laptop has Windows Vista Home Premium (64-bit) on a partition and I am having trouble finding drivers for my graphics card, which is an Intel HD Graphics 4000 model. I have tried my manufacturer's website, Intel's drivers, and all of them don't work. They end up with an error like 'This operating system is not supported.' Also, when I contact support, all they say is to upgrade to Windows 7. When I did get a driver to install, it messed up my screen, so I had to revert to the VGA Graphics Adapter again. If someone could help me find some drivers that were made for Vista or were for Windows 7 but were released quite a long time ago, that would be awesome.

Thanks,
Matthew

Is this for the Acer Aspire V5-571p?

Doing some research, are you sure you also do not have a Nvidia 710 gpu?

If so, there are no drivers for Vista, and to make use of the intel igp you will need to switch the intel on, usually fn f5, then install it.

Yes, this is for my Acer Aspire V5-571p laptop.

According to my Windows 7 device manager, it is Intel HD Graphics 4000.

If so, there are no drivers for Vista, and to make use of the intel igp you will need to switch the intel on, usually fn f5, then install it.

FN+F5 switches to an external monitor... What does this mean exactly?

You laptop has, or should have 2 useable graphics cards. 1 is the intel 4000 on the i5, and the other is a NVidia 710.
It'd be like my alienware, 1 intel, 1 NVidia..

On my system, fn f5 switches between the 2.

Can you post up a screen shot of the device manager?

Also, try and install the win 7 NVidia driver on your win 7 partition.

It doesn't seem to have two graphics cards. Here is a pic of my Device Manager. There is also no unknown devices.

Thanks for the link to your model. That clears it up.

Can you link to the intel driver you tried?

Try these instructions to manually install the drivers. The website says this is for 7 however the procedure should be the same for Vista. Graphics — How to Manually Install a Driver in Microsoft Windows 7*

If you downgraded the laptop from 8 to Vista there might not be any Vista drivers for it. Although it is something I would have done if there aren't any Vista drivers for it you might not get Vista to work right. I don't know though why they would be supporting XP but not Vista. Do you have a copy of 7?

Tried that but nothing happened. I tried the Win7 and XP 64-bit drivers and they did not work with that technique.

Yes, this computer has Vista, 7, and 8.1 on it as a triple-boot configuration. I was complaining to Intel Customer Support about why they supported a 13 year old OS and not a 8 year old one that is inside of support still.

Do you have a copy of 7?

Yes, it is the main OS on this laptop.

There is one driver provided by Acer that installs, but does not work. The result is this:

I've had Vista drivers work on 7 but I haven't tried it the other way around it however if they say it isn't compatible there isn't much that you can do. Perhaps there is some kind of hardware incompatibility that they may not have ever gotten stable.

Well, I doubt that it truly isn't 100% incompatible. If they made a 7 driver, which is based off of Windows Vista's architecture, I believe that they could have easily engineered a Vista driver. I wonder if I can request one from Intel directly.

I'm still trying to install any Intel HD Graphics driver available, and Device Manager or the program will just not accept anything. It seems like Intel did not make any drivers for Vista for 2012+ GPUs. It doesn't make sense. XP is out of support and Vista is well in its support period.

I'm sorry but I don't have any answers for you as to why they don't have any drivers for Vista. Although not optimal Vista will function on generic drivers but you won't have a high resolution or Aero and you will have trouble playing games. I suppose that you'll either have to live with that or use 7 unless you know how to program drivers. Other than preference do you have a need to stay with Vista? Unfortunately things like this can happen when downgrading Windows.

THIS METHOD ONLY WORKS ON WINDOWS VISTA. For WIndwos 7 please relocate this thread to Windows 7 Help Forums <- Click that link to go to SevenForums

FOR Vista try this:

It appears, from your photo, that you have aero, and that the controller is installed. This also looks like Windows 7 (I know from the titlebar XD) However This worked for my Laptop

If Windows XP is supported but now Vista: RIght click the setup file, go to properties and then compatibility then check run this program as: and select Windows XP Service Pack 3 (if no service pack 3 do service pack 2) then click Apply and OK

If driver is support on Windows 7/8/8.1 but not Vista: Out of luck. Upgrade to 7/8/8.1

Hope this helps :)
