Lan based IM question (I need a good IM client)

We've got a very small shop (4 users) who need to IM to each other. I
installed a very simple IM server (12planet) and they have 2 very
simple IM clients. One is java based and one is a litter better as it
will minimize to the system tray (just about perfect for us). The
only thing lacking is there is no sound in these IM clients.

Question:

Every time I download and install an IM client that I think would be
good it will only connect to a public IM service AIM yahoo MSN etc.
There does not seem to be a way to get them to work on my LAN with my
IM server software which uses ports 1863 and 1864.

Are there any good IM clients which will allow me to connect just
internally to my IM server?

Thanks,

Roveer

Greetings,

As I'm sure you're aware, there's all sorts of options, depending on if you want Peer to
Peer, encryption, collaboration features, and if you're prepared to pay.

Microsoft-wise there's Office Communications Server coupled with the Office Communicator
which is a very nice solution. However, it's probably overkill for what you're trying to do
and certainly isn't free.

Another option of course is to setup a Jabber server and use your choice of Jabber clients
(of which there are plenty).
