When your downloading these, are you downloading the zipped versions or the .exe versions? or does it make much of a difference?
Hi WBurchnall,

It doesn't make much difference. They're the same driver. It's just easier to download and save the .EXE then run it, than to download and save the .ZIP then unzip the .ZIP then run the Setup.EXE or do a manual install. (For me anyway) The .ZIP is mostly for people that want a smaller download and have trouble with the .EXE installing. Pretty much whatever your preference.

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

I currently have the latest driver 1.71 for your codec in my system. I have a BFG 680i motherboard with your hardware built in.

There is NO way the system detects the headphones when they get plugged in. It only detects the system as 7.1 speakers. So the system only works as a 7.1 and not as a 5.1+2. There are occasions where i need to shut my speakers off and listen solely via the headphones to not disturb the people but there is no way i can make vista output stereo 2.0 via the side speaker plugs like in XP.

In windows xp (which I dual boot on the smae machine) i can successfully select the headphones and hear stereo via the +2 channels. On recent changes I was unable to select them both at the same time, but that is not a big deal.

Supposedly this system is 7.1+2 and i need the +2 in order to set up the headphones for play with the headset.

I hope I am clear about the situation.

Thank you

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Hi Highlander,

The speaker configuration should not affect the headphones.

Try this out:
1. Open Control Panel. (Classic View)
2. Click on Realtek HD Audio Manager icon.
3. Click Device advanced settings in upper right corner.
4. Check (dot) Mute the rear output device, when a front headphone is plugged in.
5. Click Ok.

You should now get a pop-up when you plug in your headphone. Just select headphone and click ok. You should now hear sound only through your headphone when you plug it in.

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

The headphones are NOT connected to the front panel.. but the back panel.

my back pannel has 6 slots
1 MIC
1 Front
1 REAR
1 Center/Sub
1 Side/headphone
1 Line In

On xp.. i connect my headphones to the side speakers and they get detected as headphones when i plug them in and then i get the choice on control panel. On vista.. there is no detection perse... it just says... something has been plugged.

Ideas?

One more thing.. on my advanced settings.. I do not have that option.

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Highlander,

You might try plugging them into your front panel for a test.

When it says "something has been plugged..", do you have a list where you can select headphones? (See screenshot below)

connected.jpg

On your speakers:

Do the speakers require any drivers for themselves, or do they just plug into the jacks?

Do you have a relay cable connected from your computer's back panel microphone input to the speaker connection for the speaker's side microphone input?

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Well Highlander,

That would explain why you do not have the "mute rear when front is plugged in" option.

Have you tried plugging the headphone directly into the back of the computer instead of the speaker? Did you have a connection for the back panel headphone input to the speaker for it's headphone connection?

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

So I just recently got Home Premium x64 and I am considering partitioning my HD so I can have XP32 bit home on most of it. Main reason is right now Vista is piddling me off. One main problem with audio is that my drivers are working fine but I can't open up the Sound effect manager or any manager besides Vista's audio which sucks. So if anyone else has had the problem that when they double click the application in the installshield folder inside of Realtek then please let me know. Also, is there any patch to allow for multiple streams of audio at once, if not then Microsoft are idiots. I say this because they are promoting vista for gamers yet being a gamer I know that having only one audio stream is just not going to work. My problem is, say I am gaming and using my 2.1 speakers, well my roommate comes in and says turn that down I need to study or what not. To turn it down I have to go alt-tab out of my game, go into Vistas stupid audio setup and change from speakers to headphones as default device. Does anyone else find this incredibly annoying? Anyways, I was wondering if anyone else is having trouble opening up their Realtek Sound Manager in Vista x64. I double click the .exe and nothing happens. If your wondering I do have the latest R1.71 driver and the Asus M2n32-SLi Premium Vista Edition mobo. Also I forgot to mention, my Headset which is a Sennheiser from maybe about 3 or 4 years ago works fine in XP and even in CS Source on Vista x64. Only problem is the Mic volume is really low and I can't use it in Ventrilo or even Microsoft Sound Recorder. In order to get any sound from my mic I have to yell when setting up the microphone through vista. As I said though it works perfectly fine in CS Source on x64 and works fine in every sense on XP 32. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Hi Sciz,

For Realtek HD Audio Manager in Control Panel :
1. Uninstall the audio driver from Programs and Features and then reinstall it to see if it will help.

For microphone volume:
1. Increase the "db" level to 20. It is next to the volume level in HD manager or labeled as Microphone Boost in Sound from Control Panel.

For multiple audio streams:
NOTE: Only works if you have a front input panel.
1. Open Realtek HD Audio Manager if you can.
2. Click Device advanced settings in upper right corner.
3. Dot Make front and rear output devices playback two different audio streams simultaneously.
4. Click Ok.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Brink, it was my fault i forgot to mention that i have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers. I got rid of everything I could to where it said no drivers are installed. Then i downloaded the latest driver and still the same issues. Btw, I do have a front panel input for the microphone on the case I have for reference the Antec 900. So it would be great if once I can get the sound manager to open that I can stream multiple audio. Any other suggestions would be awesome too. As I said, no matter what I do when I double click the file in the installshield folder, mind you the files that are .exe's in that folder are the following... ChCfg.exe, RAVCpl64.exe, RtlUpd64.exe, SkyTel.exe. The same outcome happens with all of those. i double click, see the busy icon for a second then nothing happens. I looked if it was running in the task manager under processes and got nothing. For now, thanks for trying at least :). Also I forgot to mention that my Mic boost is at +30db and the level is at 100. When I open sound recorder or try it in vent I have to yell to get anything out of it.

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Sciz,

One thing I'm not clear on is if you are trying to open the Realtek HD Audio Manager icon from the Control Panel (Classic View) or not. The .exe files in the Installshield folder will not open it when I tested it on my system.

In the Realtek HD Audio Manager, under the Microphone tab, there is a Noise Suppression and Acoustic Echo Cancellation option that may help with your microphone audio.

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Ahh again, I am not clear enough and thats my bad. In the control panel or the icons in the lower right there is no Realtek sound manager icon at all. Hence why i was trying to open the .exe straight from the folder. I even used command prompt and tried opening them through that since I know how to navigate through windows. Just to be more clear, I am an IT major so I know about this stuff but I am brand new to Vista let alone x64. Funny thing is I got it for the 4gigs of ram but even after the KB929777 update I still can't get it work with 4gigs without the BSOD. Anyways, as I said in classic view all i got for audio is vistas sounds icon, there is no realtek HD manager icon anywhere to be found.

BTW if you have aim or some sort of messaging system that would be great, because maybe I have faulty drivers or maybe u can send me your Realtek folder, I dont know. For reference my aim is lilsciz04. I am on right now..

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Sciz,

I sent you a private message. If you can give me a email address in a private message back to me, I'll send the Realtek Folder via a Zip to you.

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Sciz,

I hope it helps to. I can not think of why you cannot get the driver to install correctly. Let me know if the folder helps.

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Yea after a restart still nothing in the control panel and what not. Is it possible you can take a screenshot of your control panel with the sound manager highlighted? Just press Prt Scrn and it should save it to your clipboard so open a photo manager such as even paint and hit ctr+v to paste it into there and then save it.
