Re: Shockwave Player now Vista Compatible

Hello Brink

It might be Vista compatible but on my
machine it's not DEP compatible!

I have DEP enabled in System Protection
and in IE 7 Pro. My CPU is also DEP capable.
As soon as I try to download it IE crashes.
I don't see any sense enabling
DEP to make exceptions, kind of defeats the
purpose to me! I guess I'll live without it.

Thanks anyway for the update Shawn

Re: Shockwave Player now Vista Compatible

Ok, downloaded, installed, rebooted, but no sign of it. The only evidence of the installation is when i go to add/remove programs, where Shockwave 11 player can be seen there. Very odd. No shortcut, icon, nothing.

Hi GSi-R,

See this below here: (click on the here link for test video)

Macromedia Shockwave Player support FAQ

How to check if Shockwave Player is working

You can test your Shockwave Player here. The two movies will show if you have Flash and Shockwave Players installed. The version numbers of the both Players will be displayed in the test movie. To find out what the current version of the Shockwave Player is, check the Shockwave download page.

Re: Shockwave Player now Vista Compatible

Hello Brink, how you doing buddy?

Check in Option Two of this tutorial to make sure that DEP is not enabled in IE7.
Shawn there is no doubt that DEP is enabled In IE7.
That is the first thing that I did after the reinstall,
before I even plugged the Ethernet cable back in.
I want DEP enabled. To me it only makes sense!
I knew that was why when it crashed.

And as far as exceptions go it's kind of like cutting a hole
in a rain coat before you use it. (if you know what I mean)
You're going to get stuff on you!

I don't really care if I can't use Shockwave for now I'll live.

Thank you for all your help Shawn.

Re: Shockwave Player now Vista Compatible

Ted,

Well, there's probably not much support for Shockwave yet since it is just now compatible with Vista now. Well, except for DEP enabled in IE7. ;)

Re: Shockwave Player now Vista Compatible

Hello:
I have Vista home premium, 32 bit. I have done everything I can think of, & shockwave player 11 still won't work. I have uninstalled shockwave 10, I have done this in safe mode, I have reinstalled in safe mode etc,,. at least 5 times. I redownloaded from adobe twice to make sure nothing wrong there. I've also done this using open as administrater.
After I install it says you have sucessfully installed shockwave player 11, it is in my software that is on my pc, it is listed in my IE plugins.
I test it at Adobe website to see if installed, but I get this message:
Unable to open file http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/dir.dcr" because it is already open with write permission by another user.
I get this message every time shockwave player needs to be used. I have read all over this forum, and on the web, and can find no answer to my problem
Should I just wait for shockwave player 12? and hope this problem is resloved?
Thanks for reply.
Max
