Mails get deleted when starting Windows Live Mail Desktop

Hi,

Since today all my mails are deleted. And it happens when WLM is started.

When I receive a mail, I can open the mail and read it. I also see the .eml
file appear in the Inbox folder.

But when I shutdown WLM, and when I start WLM again I see the *.eml file
gets deleted form the Inbox folder. WLM shows the header from the mail, but
when I try to open it, I get the message that there was an error occured when
opening the mail.

Any help appreciated ?

Regards,

What kind of mail account is it? POP3, IMAP or HTTP?

For an IMAP or HTTP account, if a message has been deleted on the mail
server, then WLM will delete the message the next time you synch the
account.

Besides manually deleting a message via webmail, if another program or
device accesses the same HTTP or IMAP account using POP3, and that
program or device is not set to Leave a copy on the server, whenever it
downloads a message, it will delete it from the server.

If none of that applies, also look at the Recovered Items folder under
Storage Folders for your missing messages. If so, the following issue
may be at work.

There is an intermittent shutdown bug in WLM where messages move or
deleted in WLM have the underlying EML file moved or deleted, but the
Inbox file does not get updated to disk and so the next time WLM is
started the index thinks the message is still in the old folder. That
causes the error message you are seeing.

Live Mail (desktop) deletes eml files

Hi,

It is an pop3 account. I am not deleting anything manually via webmail or so.

When Live Mail (desktop) has retrieved my email it is gone on the mail server. And I see the eml file belongin to the email on my disk in the inbox folder.

It stays there also after closing Live Mail (desktop).
But when I start Live Mail (desktop again) a second after the splash screen disappears the eml file is getting deleted.

The email is still visible in Live Mail (desktop), but when I double click to open it, I get an error message : "There was an error opening the mail".

From one day on another, Live Mail is deleting every eml file on disk when starting up. As long as I leave Live Mail open it won't touch the eml file and I can view the emails.

???

With regards,

Re: Live Mail (desktop) deletes eml files

Look under Storage Folders, Recovered Items. Click on that folder. IF
you see a > in front of the folder, click on the >. Keep working your
way down.

If you find your missing message there, then WLM is finding some
inconsistencies between the message index and the actual EML files when
it starts up.
