Solved Need help enabling HPET (High Precision Event Timer) in Vista

I am trying to enable the HPET timer ONLY in Vista (its recommended not to mix timers like having HPET and APIC enabled). The way I am told to do this apparently applies to Windows 7 as well, by typing "bcdedit /set useplatformclock true" (without quotes).

Now this doesn't work on Vista or Windows Server 2008 (not R2 which is derived from Windows 7) and shows an error message saying "data type specified is not recognized".

I JUST did this value in the command prompt on my windows 7 laptop and it said "the operation has completed successfully". I used the WinTimerTester to make sure that the queryfrequency changed from 3.xxxxx to 14.xxxxmhz.

I am ABSOLUTELY sure that Windows Vista supports HPET because it said it wasn't in XP or earlier OSes. I have the option enabled in my BIOS and it needs to be enabled in both places for windows to ONLY use HPET and not APIC.

Does anyone know the right command in Vista's/server 2008's command prompt to enable HPET?

Please respond ASAP if possible ;)

EDIT: so I downloaded the WinTimerTester program from a various site and i run it on this Windows 2008 server i am using at my college right now and the query performance frequency is 14.xxxxx. I guess it wasn't enabled by default on my Win7 laptop. problem solved as it should be enabled by default in Vista.
