New Mail Messages

I keep getting "alerts" that I have new mail messages (when I don't have new
mail) and in my messenger frame, it says I have "new mail messages" (when I
don't have any new mail). How will Windows Live Mail figure out that the
mail has been read?

I have not paid attention to how version 12.0.1606 works. I believe earlier
versions would announce new mail, even if the mail was routed to the Junk
folder.

Hi, Brighton30.

Like Norman says, plus...

It may be just the timing thing. That is, when we Synchronize All, for
example, WLM first downloads all email. Then it downloads news posts. When
it gets all done, it dings the bell to notify us of the new mail. But, if
we have a lot of NG posts and are a fast reader, we may have already read
all our "new" mail and WLM may already have marked it Read before we hear
the bell. After the mail has been displayed in the Reading Pane for the
number of seconds specified in Tools | Options | Read, WLM marks it "Read".

It does seem to me that the "alerts" that appear briefly and then fade away
are almost always for Junk messages, but I haven't tried to verify this.

I don't really use Messenger, although I may have activated some part of it
unintentionally. The only Live feature that I use is Windows Live Mail.
