No video in .AVI, only sound

#1
Hi. I have Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 with Media Player 11. When I try to
play an .AVI file from my pc, I get sound, but no video. The error message
details states I am missing a codec, Intel/Ligos Indeo Interactive 5.0
(IV50). I installed Ligos Indeo Codec 5.11, but still no video. Thanks for
any help with this.

You need to install the correct codec...or use something like SUPER (free) to convert the video to a format you can see and hear.

Generally the Ligos codecs will likely not work well. You would want to get
the content reencoded to use a more modern/more supported codec.

I also got that error message ...

Windows Media Player cannot play the file (or cannot play either the audio or video portion of the file) because the Intel/Ligos Indeo Interactive 5.0 (IV50) codec is not installed on your computer.
The missing codec might be available to download from the Internet. To search for the Intel/Ligos Indeo Interactive 5.0 (IV50) codec, see WMPlugins.com.

I'm in way over my head with this ... I know I have vista .. and 64bit, but beyond that no clue what to say. I definitely need a solution that's as idiot-proof as possible. I've been trying to figure how / where to get the plug-in, but I just have no idea. HELP!
