RealTek AC97 Audio Drive - Beta 2 Build 5384.4 (x64)

I am having trouble getting the sound to work for this build. I am running
an HP PC with the following specs:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+
1 GB RAM
RealTek AC'97 Integrated Audio

I have tried HP directly, the Nvidia drivers, the Vista Beta1 drivers for
the device and several XP variants, including XP Pro x64. No luck. Has
anyone found a good driver to use?

Many Thanks!

Found a link to BETA 2 drivers on ntcompatible.com, I can't tell if they are
x64 or x86 drivers, that you have to find out:

I had the same problem as you, and ended up just going back to x86 drivers
from the RealTek site. They worked mostly, had their own little glitches,
but were good enough if you didn't do anything too sound intensive.

Deana, can you confirm if the drivers I linked to is the x86 version?

I have RealTek AC'97 as well, and the solution was quite simple: Windows
Update (from within the Vista UI).

In short, the drivers are identified but are *not* selected for installation
by default. You have to manually select which updates are available and you
wish to install --> make sure you check the box for RealTek '97 Audio (blah
blah, whatever the wording).

I did that, and it worked a-okay. I don't have the other toys -- but they
were getting UAC blocked in previous builds, anyway.

They are only on WU if you are running x86 Vista.

Yes, the Vista drivers that are on the RealTek site are x86.

Heh, this Aero Glass GUI was making it difficult to read the subject line.
My bad...

I assume the driver developers are going to wait for Vista RTM before
unloading the goods (meanwhile working on them now). The drivers adoption
has been rather slow considering the 5-months-and-counting until gold.

It's okay, I just wanted to make sure people understood that it was x86 and
not x64. My apologies if I sounded mean.

To all guys who have no Sound!

Try the headphone jack! IN my VIsta my sound only works with the headphone
and not on the onboard Realtek sound.

I've plugged in the box plug in the headphone and voila sound, although not
the it should work.
