SBS2008 + new Windows 2008 Terminal Server

Jim

Hi,

Have an SBS 2008 domain currently running two Windows Server 2003 Terminal
Servers.

We're now planning on adding an additional Windows Server 2008 Terminal
Server.

Terminal Server Licensing role is already currently installed on the SBS
2008 box.

What's the best thing to do regards TS Licensing on the new Windows Server
2008 TS box ?

I need to keep the 2003 TS boxes online as well for a near future.

Can I just use the TS Licensing role already on the SBS 2008 box or should I
setup another TS Licensing server role on the Windows Server 2008 TS itself
?

Jim.

Hi Jim:

Guess I have to ask what you are doing in a SBS network of less than 75 users/computers
that requires three terminal servers?

But, the licensing should be fine on the SBS, or you can move it if you wish.

You can keep it on the SBS box, though that would not be the preferred
solution if you only had Server 2008 terminal servers.

Since you're planning on adding a new terminal server, I'd strongly
recommend going with Server 2008 R2. There are substantial improvements in
key areas in the R2 release for Remote Desktop Services (RDS, the new name
for Terminal Services.)

....The first 2003 TS is an elderly pull over from SBS2003 days..

The second 2003 TS is used mainly for development and testing purposes..

The third 2008 TS is to replace the first though the first will stay on as
spare for the time being.

Have various remote offices around the world and it's handy to have backup
capacity.

Not one to short change the concept of redundancy. Sounds like a plan.
