Server Error 530 with POP3 Account

B

Barbara P

I provided a user with settings for a POP3 account. She said it worked for
awhile - then stopped. Mails are not sending (they sit in her outbox). She is
using Windows Live. Can anyone help me decipher this error message?

Server Error: 530
Server Response: 530 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first
Server: 'smtp.live.com'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC78
Protocol: SMTP
Port: 587
Secure(SSL): No

She must enable SSL:
Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Advanced,
be sure to checkmark the SSL option (two places).
The complete settings are documented here:

You're very welcome, Barbara.
Note that it is customary here to quote the message one is replying to,
rather than quoting one's own previous message.

Hi Gary... I am having the same issue as Barbara had but could you please
advise what I am in when going to Tools, etc as you have suggested? I am not
that computer literate and cant seem to find a "Tools" menu to get into.

Thanks

Hi, Steve.

They HID it! :>(

The WLM Team thought we'd rather have an extra line of screen real estate
than to see the Menu Bar, so, in this build they hid it, by default! You
can tell them your opinion of this by clicking Help | Send feedback... But
not yet! Help is on the Menu Bar, which is still hidden. :>( Well, you
could click the "?" icon near the right end of the Toolbar, but...

To see the familiar Menu Bar, just press <Alt>. It will appear, but
disappear again as soon as you've used it. To keep it on
(semi-)permanently, just press <Alt>+M, M. Or click that Menus button on
the Toolbar (between the paintbrush and the "?") and choose Show Menu Bar.
