This is driving me crazy. To send email and now to receive, it pops up that my smpt server can't respond. I have PC-cillin Security installed on my laptop and have Vista Premium. I need for some one to help me step by step with this! Thanks in advance.:D

welcome to vistax64 janene,

Could you post me you e-mail address or if you would rather not share it with the public then send me a personal message with it by clicking the link below
http://www.vistax64.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=11759

what i'll do is work out your mail servers correct settings for you (the smtp server address and pop3 server address) and also give you step-by-step instructions on how to set this up.

also i will need to know the name of the program you are using to read/send your e-mail.

thanks,
Philly

thanks z3r010,

ok Im assuming your using one of the following two e-mail programs, if not then just let me know.

For Windows Mail:
1) Open Windows Mail
2) Click 'Tools' at the top of the window
3) Select 'Accounts' from the drop down menu
4) On the list, there should be a catogory called 'Mail', select 'your e-mail account' and cllick 'properties' on the right
5) Click 'Servers' at the top of the window
6) in the 'Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)' make sure it says 'mail.bellsouth.net'
7) at the bottom of that window make sure the small box is has a tick in it called 'My Server Requires Authentication'8) click 'OK' then 'Close'

For Microsoft Office:
1) Open Microsoft Office
2) Click 'Tools' at the top of the window
3) Select 'Account Settings' from the drop down menu
4) Select Your Account in the list
5) Click 'Change'
6) in the 'Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)' make sure it says 'mail.bellsouth.net'
7) click 'More Settings' and then click 'Outgoing Server' from the top
8) make sure that the box titled 'My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication'
7) make sure the first option 'Use same settings as my incoming server' is selected
8) click 'ok', click 'next', click 'finish', click 'close'

now test your mail again

[edit]
Iv also just tryed to telnet (a program for connecting to servers) your mail server, it is not letting me connect on the smtp port, however it is letting me connect to the pop3 server (incoming mail). If the above dose not work contact them asking if there is any problems at there end.
