There must be a way to be sure all Vista and W7 system files are signed
(not corrupted). I've researched and have not found a way. Can anybody
help?

Thank you. However, I've done exactly that and it stops at 56% and a
message tells me that it cannot complete or perform this process. Do you
know of any way to find out why it does this? Thanks again....

I believe it should be the same for Vista. Simply perform an Upgrade while in Windows.

Do you know if there are any risks?
No, no risks. You may notice you need to set up internet explorer again, but your programs and data will not be touched.
