Vista Patch

H

I have been told by the Techncal Support group at Dell that there is a patch
being released for Vista at the end of October. Dell has already received
the patch. Has anyone else heard this from their computer manufacturers??
If this patch is going to be released, why is Microsoft keeping it such a
secret? It's true... Vista is a complete disaster. I'm still having freeze
issues. It just floors me that Microsoft has made NO EFFORT to even comment
on these problems. GOD I LOVE MACS!!!!

Did Dell give you any inclination as to 'what' this so called patch was
supposed to do? There will be a Service pack release for Vista, but that is
still in beta at present, so there is no way it will be released this month.
Generally Microsoft are patching the software on a regular basis and these
you would automatically receive, assuming you have set Auto Update to
download the patches.

Exactly what did Dell say about the patch?
It sounds more likely the tech gave you something to get you off the
phone.
Call Dell back and get more details, what you have given here is
impossible for anyone to comment since you gave no information.

Microsoft releases patches/updates monthly, 2nd Tuesday of each month.

"I'm still having freeze issues"
Post more details and someone may be able to help.

Does it freeze and lock?
Possibly hard drive or other hardware issue.

Or does it seem to take longer than it should?
Possibly insufficient memory, many need a minimum of 1 GB RAM and
possibly 2 GB RAM.

For starters make sure you have the latest drivers.
Do not assume a new computer shipped with the latest drivers.
Have you added/installed any hardware or software?

That's a DELL problem, not Vista. Ask DELL why they are keeping it a
secret. Personally, I prefer Whoppers to Macs.

It is a Service Pack and will be released at the end of this month. They
already have the Beta issue and say it is resolving many issues. I do have
Auto Update. It is also going to be resolving reliability and performance.
Just found out it will be out in December. --

It's Microsoft that's not discussing it. My problems relate to VISTA.
You're calling a PC a whopper???? Are you referring to screen size? Macs are
far superior to PCs. Most people just can't afford them. Perhaps that's
YOUR problem.

If you 'patch' regularly, you will have received more or less the entirety
of SP1 by the time it is released. Vista SP1 is nothing like the same as XP
SP2 was.

System freezes are more apt to be caused by faulty
hardware or bad hardware drivers. Have you visited
the Dell support website and looked for recent
driver updates, including a possible BIOS update?

Welcome to Dell Support:
http://support.dell.com/

Type in your Dell Service Tag number to find
updated drivers for your specific Dell model PC.

Service Pack 1 Beta has been in testing for a while now.
The final version is not expected until sometime early next year.
It sounds like the Dell tech told you what he thought you wanted to
hear to get you off the phone and save the metrics.
Most of what is included in the Service pack is the patches/updates
already released.
If you have them installed, you have most of Service Pack 1.

As I suggested in my other post, freezing is probably a hardware
issue, not Windows.
Long waits may be software.

See my other post for a place to start.
Post specifics if you want to give someone a chance to help.

Have you ever USED a Mac??? I merely asked the question if anyone else had
heard about a patch or service pack coming out. Thank God for John Barnett.
He gave me a straight answer. I've worked on both Macs and PC's. I would be
willing to bet you've never touched a Mac. But, because of your cynicism,
you would probably lie and say you have. As far as having it "your way".
Macs already ARE "your way". They founded "user friendly". Unlike those of
you, with the exception of John Barnett, that have continued this thread.

Yes I have Carey. Extensive tests have been run on memory, hardware, BIOS,
drivers, etc. They're fine. I have noticed an overwhelming amount of posts
concerning freezes with Vista. After all the tests I have to come to the
same conclusion as the other people that are experiencing the same problem.
Thank you so much for your nice reply. It's a welcome change to what I've
been getting (except for John Barnette).

If this patch is going to be released, why is Microsoft keeping it such a
secret? It's true... Vista is a complete disaster. I'm still having freeze
issues. It just floors me that Microsoft has made NO EFFORT to even comment
on these problems. GOD I LOVE MACS!!!!
