Solved Western Digital external drive probs

Hi Guys

I have a WD 1T My Book, which i have used twice, in six months. Now the PC won't recognise the external drive. The external has is powered up light on and the latest version of the WD software is installed on my PC, but still it is not seen. I have been through the device manager search etc and still nothing. I am using Vista 32bit with sp2 installed. All my other usb devices work no problem. Any suggestions.

for starters go to wg support WD - Service & Support Home and download and run the lifeguard diagnostic app for your model.

Does it have a drive letter, right click computer choose manage, upper left pane click disk management, if it doesn't, right click the desired drive and assign it one; be sure to post back to keep us informed.

Tried both your suggestions. Lifeguard only showed one drive, my hard drive. Disk management showed both my HD and dvd rom. No sign of external drive. Might be worth noting that i tried the external on my daughters laptop, not even a install message. Pc world here i come i think.....refund!!!!
