When is Windows Vista actually going to work?

I just bought a computer with Vista on it. IT SUCKS!!!!! Nothing works with
this system. We bought the computer to play games on, no games are
compatible with this system. When is somebody going to do something to fix
this? I talked to HP< Microsoft, and Geek Squad, and they walked me through
how to downgrade to XP, guess what my computer is not compatible with XP, so
my whole system crashed. So much for professionals. I just want a system
that works.

Could you narrow down what games and apps that don't work ? Most of us here
have lots of apps and games that do work.

I'm positive that the ssystem you have, is compatibile with XP, you must
just need to format and re-install, versus trying to downgrade, but there is
no doubt in my mind XP will work.

I couldn't agree more. I just bought a new computer 3 weeks and had the
option of WindowsXP or Vista. I chose Vista believing I was going to get a
great OS. WRONG. This system is filled with speed bumps, hang ups and makes
my "fast" computer and "fast" internet connection crawl.

Hey Microsoft, instead of making your OS more secure by prompting my
approval for every move and slowing my internet to dial up speeds why didn't
you make your backdoors more secure so I could enjoy the $1,000 in "new"
technology I purchased. I am completely disappointed and sorry I didn't go
with XP and give you guys 2 years to patch and update this new gem of a
system you created. DirectX, ActiveX, Adobe Flash, these are just a few of
the things I am having problems utilizing that I never had problems with
before.

So, when will this system be "user friendly"? When will I get the most from
this OS? And if not can I go back to XP now that I wasted my money on Vista?

Thanks Bill. Oh, and congrats on being tops on the Forbes billionaire list
again. I'm glad I could do my part. Now fix your OS and do yours!

Actually many games are compatible with Vista, which ones are you trying to
play, and what happens when you do?
It's up to the software vendors to make their games compatible, not
Microsoft.

Gosh-a-rootie Kristen,

How utterly horrible that NOTHING works on your new computer....

Might I suggest a 286 based CPU and DOS 2.0?

Add a 2mb stick of ram and you can play pong until the cows come home.

Hope this helps, if not oh well.......

Though I'm sure there are some problems with Vista...
there is no way your PC is not compatible with XP...
You either did something wrong...or your machine has a serious hardware
problem!!!

Windows Vista itself does work. So I'll go on it being the hardware under
powered or just junk.

Depending on where you are in the world you might want to get the computer
refunded for not being suitable for the purposes of which it was sold, in
the UK and the rest of the EU we have legislation to be able to do that.

If you want a computer for gaming, ask the supplier or manufacturer what the
Windows Experience Index score is, if you're doing gaming you'll want a 4
bare minimum (2 or 3 if you're just doing simple card games and the like),
and 5 if you want to play current games at maximum details.

Did you buy it from the back of a van ?
I just got a Vista Box from a Retal Outlet (Fry's Electronics), and it works
great.
Every Game I've loaded runs
My Development Software Installed (Visual Studio 2003 & 2005) and both work
Was also able to make a dual boot system with XP Pro, (I'll be removing XP
from it as I"ve not needed to boot to XP yet)
And with Virtual PC 2007, I can even run my older games that wouldn't even
install on XP by creating a Win 98 VPC for playing my older games.

And if your computer is not compatible with XP, then it's not compatible
with Vista, given that the Requirments for Vista are HIGHER then XP.

So it sounds like you got taken for a ride by not knowing what you were
buying.

Yea...every game manufacturer is going to re-write their titles released in
the past 2-3 years for Vista....suuuuureeeee! I can just see that
happening...

It's up to Microsoft to support the software for their OWN operating system,
and that is something they completely failed on with Vista.

I can almost excuse the driver problems. Not quite...but almost.

But ya know what? I absolutely cannot excuse not supporting existing
*windows* software on a new version of a *windows* operating system.

Especially games are products that don't see continuous updates. Just
because a game is 3 years old does not make it bad and a newer release of
it is not necessarily better (if a newer sequel even exists).

Does there have to be a cut-off point somewhere where it just has to be
said "This is too old...it may not run" ? Sure. I'd consider Win9X software
a reasonable cut-off point but not XP software!

So it's Microsoft's responsibility to make sure their new OS is compatible
with all the old software out there?

When is Vista going to work? In my experience, about 45 minutes after
I started installing it.
