Hi,

Make another disk from the original download. If you deleted it, then
redownload the rtm version (provided you have access to it) and reburn it.
If this is your only system, then do it on a friend's system.

If you had an RC or beta version, then you are out of luck as they are no
longer available. All you can do is wipe the machine and load a clean
install of another OS for which you currently have the media.

Uh-oh... Hate to bring bad news but you're in trouble. You see, this file
('system' is a file without extension in config folder) is critical system
file since it holds part of HKLM registry hive, namely HKLM\System which
holds OS configuration data, hardware and services configuration etc.

Your best bet is to boot from Vista DVD as suggested. If you can't get one,
there's MSKB article on how to deal with registry corruptions that prevent
system from booting for Windows XP which I guess you can use for Vista as
well (but just in case, disclaimer - use at your own risk):
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545

Actually it could be worse than that. Say, losing 'software' file which
contains all registry settings and config for installed programs.
